i stay away from nurseries, i can't resist buying plants, but it's such a damn ripoff!

that being said, the end of the season is a GREAT time to get CHEAP plants, if the nursery of choice has overstocked during the season.

Try working at a place that sells plants! I have way more tomato and pepper plants than I need but I can't resist anything unique or about to be thrown out because it's not looking so good. I brought home 2 flats of annuals today (free) that would have been thrown out this week if they don't sell, I'd take more home but it's so darn hot to be out planting flowers.

I have stooped to telling my husband a plant "followed me home". I can't resist a bargain, a plant that I haven't seen before, or a plant that just needs to come with me and get a little TLC. Cassie, you did well and your plants will reward you. Dlmka, two flats of annuals, free? Heaven!

I have cleaned out a few flower beds in anticipation of whatever clearance deals I can catch. I want spots ready and waiting on them so I can just plunk them in the ground and then give them a good dose of love (miracle gro or fish emulsion (I am using up the last of the MG :))

I call it plant psychosis. Something comes over you in the nursery and suddenly you are buying things you really probably shouldn't. Went in on Sunday to get something colorful for my front porch container. Came out with super cute mini petunias (for the porch), PLUS 4 tiny brussels sprouts, another tarragon, chocolate mint (like I need more mint!) and another 1/2 flat of annuals. I have the same problem with art supplies and books...

I am the same, so my husband is dispatched with a list of what I need and comes back, with the wrong thing usually, haha, no! he's pretty good mostly, this saves us a ton of money, because I can't see the plants, I am also a fool over garden gadgits, my other weekness is lipsticks, and I don't even wear makeup??? had loads of them in a draw pristine condition, until my boys decided to draw on themselves and most of the walls in the house! cann't get it off!

I do the same. Today I was suppose to be mowing the seven acres I didn't get done yesterday, but decided to put it off until later so it would be out of the hottest part of the day. Took off for the nearest town and just happened to stop at the tiny nursery where I picked up the Purple Cherokee plants about a month ago. Needed some cabbage and brussel sprouts. Well, the German Johnsons that I missed during the last trip there and a poor Mr. Stripey that had been marked down to a dollar because it was pretty darn tall, oh, and a 4 pack of a "Golden" something tomato caught my eye. When I went in to pay, the lady said the guy was going to mark down things on Thurs. and I commented that I came a day too early. She said he was just going to mark down the flowers and I told her he'd have to do the veggies soon because they were starting to look a little rough. Right thing to say? She told me she'd mark down the ones I bought today. Tomatoes, and cabbage .25 a plant and the brussel sprouts wound up being 6 for a dollar. Like I needed another 10 tomato plants having 25 already. Oh, I just love growing vegetables.

My office is in a county park and next to this posh little nursery that always has the most gorgeous healthy plants raised on the grounds. I cannot in any way afford posh plants from the posh plant place, I can afford seeds or half dead things I bargain for and try to nurse. But I still walk by and gaze wistfully. I might have to start leaving my credit cards at home, that place is wearing me down.

I completely understand. I can control myself around early girls and better boys, but some exotic colorful tomato I don't have-- I get tingly all over.

I think I mightve subconciously given up the search for a pumpking prematurely this year for that exact reason. I am weak when it comes to the nursery. Even if it's not a plant, I need to buy SOMETHING

I go to a nursery every weekend even though I don't need anything. It's such an addiction just to even walk around and look, and if I see something new I have to have it. I can't help myself!

Heather! Thats so funny about the lipstick!!! I but chapsticks of all different things, and I hardly wear it ever. I have every intention of using it, and then it sinks to the bottomless pit of my purse never to be seen again (or until its time to change purses) and by then it is dirty or im just not interested in it anymore LOL! Then I need to get more because the ones I had were thrown away LOL!!!!!

I went to the grocery store today and they had 6-packs marked down to 50-cents! So I got a Big Boy 6-pack and a Hungarian Stuffer pepper 6-pack. Now, where in the world I think I'm going to plant them I have no idea, but they looked so sad sitting there... (kinda like Charlie Brown's Christmas tree!)

I'm a sucker for organic veggies especially, and always say to myself I can "make room for" whatever jumps into my shopping cart. Sigh.

There's a fresh produce place around the corner that also sells vegetable seedlings, and a lady at the farmer's market who has the most amazing varieties of peppers, melons, and everything else. I can never resist!
