Hypertufa to repair stone/resin/styrene fountain?
Comments (10)Billie Ann, That's a cool site you forwarded, but I can't find any info about being water- and weather-proof. I've been looking at the patches used for fiberglass canoes and boats. Epoxy putties, which can cure underwater and live below the water line, seem like a possibility. You mix it and mold it like clay into any shape. It hardens in one hour and cures hard in 12 hours. What does that sound like to you? Other people on the forum suggested I look for info about auto and fiberglass repairs. This possibility came out of that search. There are more complicated things that require fiberglass cloth with an epoxy putty, but I don't THINK I have a big enough hole to require the cloth. I haven't in the past three winters covered the fountain. It's supposed to be entirely weatherproof. But I'm sure the fact that the bowl filled and iced caused it to tumble on its face onto the patio, thereby causing the damage. So henceforth it will spend the winter in the basement. I just need to get it looking good again. Pat...See MoreMillstone (photo)
Comments (18)Your millstone looks great Mike. I just made one as well yesterday morning....demolded and did some carving (I made some grooves on it and patterned it all the way around) to-day. I used a 45 gallon hard plastic (about 1/4' thickness) drum that my hubby ran through one of his power saws at 6" heights. We were able to get 6 mold rings out of it. My millstone is 24" round and about 4" thick. I will take some pics tommorrow evening and try to get them posted. We were in Aylmer this afternoon and I saw a pretty big millstone at the entrance to their fairgrounds. I asked Steve if he will take some photo's of it for me tommorrow so I will post them as well if he gets them I had been wanting to make a millstone all summer for a waterfall as well..but have been waaay to busy to play much in the mud or get on this forum(although I have been sneaking in every few weeks when I have gotten a moment or two.) With the colder weather settling in around us( I have a nice workshop in my basement that hubby made for me last year) I am hoping I will put it to good use throughout the winter. There are so many things I am wanting to make....See MoreMillStone Pictures

Comments (2)Yes , you have to plug the hole so that the water does not fall back down the center. When we have received a mill stone with a larger than required center hole we have used a large rubber stopper / cork and have siliconed it into the central hole....See More- 10 years ago
