Fungal problem... need advice

Hello to all; The leaves on my Ozark beauty strawberries started to curl inward, Lookin on this site I found someone with a similar problem,the concensus being fungal infection(There was no cure advised in the replies).I'm doing the raised bed thing,using Mel B's method.I mulched heavily,(also all my other beds and containers) I thought I'd be doin my plants a favor..and conserve water to boot.It's been really dry here in the Ozarks and I've been watering daily("with Mels mix you can't over water"). All other veggies are looking good with the exception of the Toms, who's lower leaves are somewhat yellowed(they are in 7 gal pots) 1st the fungal issue... aside from removing the mulch what can I do? 2nd.. should I remove the mulch from all the beds? what common veggie plants are best mulched and which are not? Thanks ,and keep the dirt under your fingernails.

Not sure what you can do about the fungal problem except maybe treat with a fungicide. The toms sound like they need some nitrogen, are you fertilizing them since they are in containers? They will need it as the nutrients are used up and washed out of containers fairly quick.

What did you mulch with?

Best bet is to remove infected leaves. Don't water so much, just water as needed. "You can't over water" is not true. Just a catchprhase, whatever "Mel B's" mix means...

Next step would be to get better varieties that handle your area without getting infected. Create diverse plantings of different plant varieties.

Anything fungicide is just a bandaid and isn't attacking the route cause of whatever problem you're experiencing.

Agree with above that the spots are most likely signs of a fungal disease. The questions to consider are whether this will occur only sporadically under unusually wet conditions and to what degree it is setting back the growth of the tree and whether it will also damage the fruit in the future. Your idea of a dormant copper spray sounds sensible and should not hurt, though it may not be effective and if this proves to be a recurrent problem that damages the plant or fruit, you may need to consider spraying growing-season antifungals. The good news is that pawpaws can most often be grown without the need for this. So for now I would do nothing but observe.

Improving drainage can reduce the incidence of root rots or soil-borne fungal problems but many other fungal issues are more related to climate, humidity and siting. And some are just plain tough to avoid :-) If you have issues with fungal diseases or suspect that you might, you need prevention ahead of any symptoms......most fungicides - organic or not - are prophylactic, that is preventative only, not curative. Copper sulfur, aka Bordeaux mix, IS an accepted organic control. Corn gluten meal is an alternate choice for some fungal diseases but not very effective with regards to foliar problems. Try the Cornell or baking soda formulation or diluted milk. Both change the surface pH of the foliage, making it inhospitable to fungal spores. My fungicide of choice for most common problems is Neem oil. And it is an effective insecticide as well.

I'm another who's thinking of leaf miners, in particular the blotch leaf miner. When you hold an affected leaf up to the light, can you sort of see through it? Please click HERE to see what I'm talking about. Columbines are quite susceptible, as Arlene mentioned. Edited to add that mosiac virus is a VIRUS and that there is no cure. Fungicides are useless. Viruses are spread from plant to plant by piercing/sucking insects...leaf hoppers are a primary vector, but not the only one. Preventing plant viruses requires insect control. That and removing the entire plant.

My lawn looks exactly the same. I took pictures to Lowe's and they recommended a fungus treatment. I applied it yesterday, hopefully in two weeks it will start to clear up.

You most certainly can over-water and excess moisture combined with cool temps is a recipe for fungus problems.

But without knowing exactly which of the common strawberry diseases you have it is difficult to prescribe treatments other than remove all affected foliage and begin a regular fungicide treatment program.
