I used to ship quite a few eggs for hatching. I rolled each egg in 1/2 paper towel, inserted into egg carton and taped the carton closed. then used packing peanuts, nesprint and or any lightweight material which could absorb some shock. Fill the shipping carton so there can be no movement and seal. my experience with feedback was hatch rates ran from a low of 3 per dozen to a high of 10 per dozen eggs hatched. I gaurranrteed 3 live chicks or another 12 eggs free, except for the postage. very few eggs were reported to have been broken in transit. There was 1 time when a claim was made tthat all eggs were broken, I doubt it, but reshipped for the additional postage. Some people will try to rip of the breeder. My eggs were $25 per dozen, which included shipping( usually around 8-9 $$s shipping by xpress mail for the 1st 12.. As started birds I got from 15$-$50 per bird so if only 3 hatched, the buyer made out nicely. I mainly advertised on poultry sites, word of mouth from shows and sold a time or 2 on egg bid. If your birds are good you dont need to advertise a whole lot. Buyers will fare better buying nicely started good quality stock.

I usually sell around 20 dozen hathching eggs per season and ship by express mail, Post runs from 8-11 $$ per doz. I wrap each egg in 1/2 paper towel and put in egg carton then pack the carton with more towels until there can be no movement, seal the carton and tape shut. Then use newspaper to wrap the carton, about 20 layers then put in a box and stuff corners with newspaper and foam peanuts also coverring the egg carton. I have had only 1 report of broken eggs, but I dont really think they were broken; some people just try to get something for nothing. Most breeders will ship again for postage only if more than a few are broken. I get $25 per dozen for my bantam eggs which are from top show winning breeding stock. Sometimes the hatch rate suffers on shipped eggs and other times the hatch rate is very good. Its always a crap shoot but a good way to get some excellent genetics into your location.

I tried hatching out quail eggs from an incubator several times mostly unsuccessfully. I did hear that humidity is important. Also I heard you should NOT touch the eggs with your hands or fingers. I had numerous chicks that couldn't make it out of the egg, and also numerous times I tried to help them out of the egg, and they were never healthy. I also had quit a number that hatched, but had deformed legs and couldn't walk right. It was very heartbreaking. I did have 2 occassions where the hen actually did hatch out a couple babies (out of many eggs) and they are the cutest things on earth. I call them bumblebees! Even the other quail in the pen would sit on them to keep them warm. I really enjoyed them. I don't have them anymore and do miss them.

Not sure if your egg has hatched or not. I used a hot water bottle to hatch abandoned eggs, when they hatched we fed them some wild bird feed. Get a chick waterer (you can get them at feed stores or order them from mcmurray hatchery, Jeffers pet catalog and other places. I wouldn't mist the egg by the way.
