Just thought I'd post this info since there has been some goose activity here.

The Greylag goose(Anser Anser) is the parent stock of most of our domestic geese such as the Pilgrim, the American buff & the Embden. They are natives of northern & central Eurasia. ( Anatidae , Anseriforms)

The Swan goose(Anser Cygnoids) is the P stock of our China and African geese. The African probably has dewlap Toulouse genetics in its makeup . They are natives of Mongolia/ Russia. (Anatidae, Anseriformes)

The Canada goose( Canadians are the people) is not really a goose, it is a Branta( Branta Canadensis). Not hard to guess their native lands. They can and do interbreed with Anser Anser and produce non fertile young called mules. There are no known domestic derivatives of the Canada, altho there are some strains which have been captivly bred for many generations.
