I have seed that I collected from my garden. I sow them every year and they they always sprout. It takes until the 2nd year from them to bloom double, but they do. If you are interested, I can send you 2 dozen seeds in exchange for your Heucheras 'Smokey Rose' and 'Ring of Fire'. Carrie

Just so people understand you will NOT get a true coneflower hybrid with these coneflower seeds. They revert back to the dominant parent, which more than likely will be the ordinary purple coneflower.

Mxk3, I started to answer your post, but checked my spreadsheet to make sure I had Pink Double Delight - and I don't!! LOL The one I have is Razzmatazz - it is pink and a double - and pictures look very similar to those online of PDD. I read that PDD is supposed to be shorter and bloom earlier than Razz. I'm very happy with Razz, but it is quite tall. Mine has been in bloom for weeks now, but everything in my garden is early this year because of our superwarm May. Anyway, Razz has grown well, bloomed it's first season in the garden, & quadrupled in size since planted in Spring of 2006. I have trouble keeping echinaceas, even the standard ones like Ruby Giant, White Swan, and Magnus. because of my very heavy damp clay, so an ech persisting for 4 seasons in my garden is really good and somewhat special. My Razz was planted in a small hole gouged out of the clay (with about two inches of light duff on the top) near a small tree in light shade. I find trees to be helpful in sucking up excess water in my soil. I didn't expect the plant to be much more than an annual and treated it as such - go figure :)) BTW, especially nice (and surprising) is that despite the shade this rather tall plant does not lean toward the sun and stems are very sturdy.

Oh yes, a few Echinacea are a must in any sunny garden. I would suggest starting with three or so varieties/colours. As for the Big Sky series, I don't think they are a bust, but some people have had bad experiences, while others have had good/acceptable experiences. The key in all cases, is to plant healthy, mature plants in late spring or early summer. I would not recommend 'Double Decker'. A variety like 'Pink Double Delight' is 10X better. And yes, 'Kim Knee High' has been great for most. It is somewhat shorter, and has excellent branching, so puts on quite a show. Good ol' seed strains like 'Magnus', 'Ruby Star' and 'White Swan' are great plants to begin with. They'll self-sow if you let them. I loved 'Tiki Torch' this year (planted last year). I posted pictures earlier this summer.
