dog friendly... attractive dog run?!
Comments (7)Oh yes..that attractive chain link fence...what an eyesore! We've had it about 5 years now & I know even with beautiful landscaping that will remain a problem..we never thought of it when we got it..we were just thinking of the dogs (of course after we had it put in I saw it a vinyl coated green which blends into the greenery..not as abrasive as the silver one we have)...Since our PA soil is so rocky & hard to dig into I was thinking of a few large clay pots strategically placed around the inside edge of the fence & planting a variety of annuals & since the fence is 6 feet high I thought maybe a few window boxes here & there between the clay pots...I'll just have to improvise & distract the eye away from the fence! I checked out the local nursery yesterday & saw the pea gravel..I also checked out their stepping stones & other slabs that have a great look but they coat about $8.00-$10.00 a piece! I'll continue to look around...maybe molds would be better.. Well thanks for all your input...I just have to get up a plan & wait for the weather to warm up..Have a nice day!...See MoreDog jumping and running around upstairs
Comments (19)I am in the same situation with my upstairs neighbors. I have a pet myself, a cat. She is older so is pretty chill and when she does feel like playing I do so with her in the carpeted room to avoid disrupting my neighbors. I also often take her on walks to the coffee spot or to friends (yes you can do this with cats and no I am not a weirdo I swear!) But my above neighbors got a young rottweiler in a studio apartment in a city area with no safe parks super nearby. The dog is out of control, I have seen it and it jumps all over you (sign of bad training). As a pet owner myself, it breaks my heart to see the neglect. Pets are responsibilities! They should not have got this dog, sorry. I would love to have a dog but I travel too much and cant afford a house with a yard (I too would prefer a large dog) and do not agree that it is okay for large dogs to be confined to apartments unless you plan on having the time to take it outside for a log walk everyday since you do not have a yard. So I have my cat. They never take the dog out, it's so sad. They take it out to pee across the street and that's it. It runs around the apartment and they use a hard ball that I can hear rolling from one side to the other, this is about 8 times a day by the way. Now I understand with covid, working from home has caused these issues meaning I would not be bothered as much perhaps if I was at the office more. But I disagree that I should have to live with this, it has caused me to have a lack of sleep and is taking a huge toll on my mental health. Not to mention that often it occurs during important zooms and even they can hear it! So I have had to mute myself. I can't afford to move again, and I should not have to. Also angry at them because irresponsible pet owners are the reason pets get banned in the first place. So sure understand your point about not taking it out on the animal as I don't want to see it at the shelter but that doesnt mean its fair on us to have to deal with their neglect....See MoreMy dog terrifies people who come to our front door...What to do?
Comments (47)Labmomma- Did I say anything about court? :-) Let me tell you the nutshell version of a story of how the dog whisper helped probably save our furry little behinds. I told this story on another forum and all the cesar-haters came out and told me how stupid i was so you're getting the short version. After watching the show, I decided I would make more of an effort to keep the dogs to my side instead of in front of me while on walks. I wouldn't say they had a pulling problem but the one would pee on everything in sight and the pup was starting to learn how that looked like fun so I felt like it was time to see if I can walk the dogs how cesar does on tv. And no I didn't contact a professional before using the technique like it says in the disclaimer! I thought I'd take a chance. Well after some time walks became a lot more enjoyable and didn't need someone to reinsert my arm into it's socket if a squirrel ran by and there's no more pee-mail. So there's something to be said for more structured walks and not letting the dogs go first. That's only half of it. Ok so we're on a sidewalk where some rednecks keep their pitbull looking dogs out in their yard and never walk them or probably do anything remotely responsible so the dogs had tunnneled under the fence. I didn't know this until a mean looking growling and barking dog ambushes us. My first instinct: soil trousers. My second instinct: must get out of here.* â note there is a "*" Normally these dogs of mine are very friendly, they think every person and dog is their friend and wants to give them cookies. They are personalities that people would kill for in a dog. The mean dog is circling us and I was trying to act like i didn't notice and wanted the boys to play along like we were all wearing iron clad armour. They stayed with the program, focusing on me and where we were going, not jerking me away to go mess with the mean dog. We managed to evade persuit, not getting bitten. I credit the dog whisper show for making me aware that perfecting the walk was possible and it paid off big. Now for that * I was talking about. On a recent episode Cesar talked about what do do in a situation where if you are face to face with a mad dog, you don't turn around and run away. He didn't give instructions on what to do, it was the post office seminar episode, but whatever we're still alive and the dogs did not engage thank god. He also says to be calm and assertive and not show fear. I would be very surprsied if I was not showing or smelling like fear but I'm sure I probably was pretty calm and assertive....See MoreChased by a dog while running
Comments (63)Thank you everyone. Doing much better today. Still hurts when touched or when taking any steps up/down or first getting up from laying/sitting to move, and can't sleep on that side, but at least I finally got some sleep last night sleeping on my other side (not the preferred one). I went to the doctor within a few hours of it happening and got a Tetanus, antibiotics, and a cleaning of the wound. I also reported it to the Sheriff's office which told me a puncture bite should always be reported and the dog was picked up by a deputy and put into quarantine at a local vet for 10 days (paid for by the owner) and his shot records were verified so at least I don't have to worry about rabies. I do want to get some pepper spray that would be effective on humans as well since you never know there either, but don't want it to kill a dog either. Usually I only encounter deer, bunnies, and sometimes the school bus and a home health aide, so haven't had a reason to worry before, but now I'm in full protect mode. If I have to carry something I need it to be effective for all threats....See Moretrianglejohn
