ants, aphids and jalapenos

i have a patio tomato AND a jalapeno plant in a 8 gallon container (i am aware that this is probably too small) on a balcony in germany facing south (getting as much sun as I can offer them). Since transplanting a few days ago from a 3 gallon container, both plants seem to be doing just fine for now. However, a new issue has come about: scores of ants are crawling around on the jalapeno (but not the tomato). Upon closer inspection, i noticed that a few aphids are living in each of the some 15 blossoms that are currently present and it seems the ants are going after them. Has anyone experienced aphids/ants on peppers? Would the aphids influence my harvest? Should I be seeing the ants as my little helpers against the aphids? BTW, aphids are also very present on my chocolate mint, but are not causing damage (yet?) and have not affected any other plants (e.g. basil, tomatoes, eggplant)

thanks in advance for your help.

joe
