Yeah, not a whole lot we can do about it though, unless you can find tarps big enough to cover an entire tree with.

We've hardly had any winter here. I'm very concerned.

Maples are starting to bud, which is about a month earlier than normal. It's looking like a perfect setup for a total crop loss on tree fruits. Even a long cold snap may not be enough to slow the trees down so they don't bloom early. Our last frost date is generally around the beginning of April. There's a lot of calendar between now and then.

Could be pretty bad in some areas. I've been on the north side of all this warmth (I hit 42F yesterday, while Des Moines/Omaha were both near 70F). Today looks closer to 50F. My low temp has been down to -11F and one day i hit 2F for a high...but other then a couple of "cold" snaps (really nothing for this area), its been a mild winter. Snowfall totals to date are around 17 or 18 inches...normal for a year is around 40.

Makes me wonder if scion collecting should occur sooner...
And late dormant sprays? I guess a close up inspection for swelling buds, and eyes out for insects, but beyond that?
In our zone 5b, our low was 8f this year for a couple days, that's it. Anyone ever harvest brussel sprouts in early January this far north?

I picked my sprouts back in December, but i still have some growing under plastic. Would have been a very good year to overwinter crops in low/high tunnels.

The more I look at the extended range, the more I believe the coldest has passed us. I might think differently in another week...

I still have some snow cover here, so that helps keep everything dormant.

No snow cover here. Chicago is on track to have a winter with no sub-zero temperature reading.

I've been below 0F 4 times...but I average like 30...so its been mild.

Just going to have to watch for early blooming and late freeze/frost...like every other year.
