I am a newbie here, only been here a few wekks. I am in zone 7 (eastern North Carolina). I am looking for annuals and perinnials (prefer flowers under 2 feet). I have a bunch of different flower beds waiting to be filled with flowers. I have full sun and full shade as well as partial shade. I have a vaction home at a local lake so I have 2 yards to make pretty. I have no idea what type of soil I have. I do know that at the lake it is hard and doesn't hold moisture well so we'll have to use mulch. Which, I am planning to do alot of containers for the lake. I am starting to like bushes too but nothing too big. I would love to be adopted by one of you experienced gardeners. Please check out my listings. Hmm, tempting. I'm a newbie in SE Texas (zone 8b or 9, depending on the map). I'm mostly interested in veggies and edible flowers (perennials and herbs), and would love to add a fruit tree or two later (I also LOVE morning glories). I don't have much room to work with in the ground, so I'm planting in containers, and I've got tomatoes, cukes, squash, peppers and eggplants going right now. One thing I learned from my failed garden experiment 3 years ago is that "full sun" in most places is definently NOT full sun here! I've got nice shady areas, dappled sun, and morning to mid-afternoon spots to work with. I'm a bit of a "ooh, pretty!" type of shopper, so right now, I've got 15 or so tomato plants (5 different types), thinking that worst case scenario, I have a couple that will survive my rookie mistakes, and best case, I'm foisting tomatoes onto unsuspecting family members. (Same for the cucumbers...the squash are ALL mine...LOL)
This is a great idea...hopefully newbies who go through this "program" will want to adopt a newbie next year.

Hi everyone!I've been away for the most part the last couple days, sorry about that! Between Mother's Day, planning my son's graduation for the end of this week and my wedding on the 24th, I've been running around with several binders of list of stuff!!

I want to welcome Linda in aiding me in creating new gardening addicts! :)

Kim, hon, you are a wonderful trader! I know! We've done a couple trades! If you're interested, I would definitely enjoy having you help with this! You know how to trade and though you've not been about long, you do know how to set up and carry through a trade and really, that's what we're teaching them! So, if you're willing to mentor a newbie through the processes, you're more than welcome to join the fun!

And welcome Amy and Shae as well!!!!!! Newbies YAY!!! You both have all the required information! And your pages look great! It will really help you in trading to have a well set up page.

Welcome Kim (musical)! And thanks Amy for bumping this! Sorry I've been MIA, my son graduated from High School Friday night and I've had lots of company in, including my ex-husband and his wife. Last night we had lots of company and today my soon to be sister in law and her husband will be in.

I've received Shae's envelope and she's doing wonderfully!! I'll be mailing to her Monday.

I'm really excited about this project! We have so many new friends coming to GW daily, and to me, the best way to make sure they are good members of this community is to pass along the lessons and good advice that were given to me. I haven't been on GW for long, but I was blessed enough that my first few trades were with wonderful people who were patient enough to take the time to teach me from the ground up :) This is my thank you to them, as well as my welcome to new members:)

I am a newbie! Not just here but lived in my home for less than a year. I started out wanting to just grow veggies but then other stuff started growing.

Then I wanted a privacy screen now I am realizing I have at least 3 different types of roses and some things I think are Iris (yellow and purple)

Now I find myself trying to root cuttings and figuring out where to get the the seeds from the plants. I also have an old Crab Apple tree in the yard but the fruit is not mature yet.

Anyway I would love all the help I can get in trading!

I figured I'd put my 2 cents in anyway & see if anyone wanted me, even though I joined the site last year. lol

I'd put up my 'wanted' list & what I have to trade, but I don't know how to do that.

I live near Tulsa, Oklahoma.. Some maps say that's zone 7, some say it's zone 6, so I don't know exactly what zone I'm in. Like kawaii_fruit, I am mostly interested in vegetables & edible flowers, as well as collecting some more exotic/different/unusual kinds of plants. I also have an interest in bonsai (but want to know more about it, first!).

Like Kawaii_Fruit, I also don't have a lot of room to work with. I have a 4x8 square foot garden & lots of containers around there. I use compost, potting mixes & that kind of thing for everything, except nasturtiums. I planted those in the ground, since they like bad soil & little water. :D lol

Right now I have adzuki beans, green beans, korean summer squash, a few varieties of tomatoes, thai purple eggplants, a variety of herbs, 2 kinds of Asian watermelons, several varieties of peppers, multi-colored bell peppers (as well as the usual ones), korean shiso (i have an abundance of that & would be interested in giving some away, if it wouldn't hurt the plants), I also have some bunching onions, 2 kinds of chives, garlic, shallots, onion bulbs, Kyoto red carrots, Japanese kabocha pumpkins, Korean summer radishes & ponytail radishes & several types of leaf lettuce, arugala & rainbow swiss chard. As for herbs, I have 4 types of basil, 2 types of mint, 2 types of dill, parsley, chamomile, catnip & that's all I can think of at the moment.. lol

I am interested in organic gardening, composting & growing different kinds of ginger, lemongrass, etc.. (I cook a lot of Asian foods).. I would also like to learn about growing water plants, like lotus (for the roots).. :)

Hi I'm a newbie in need of adopting!

I just joined after seeing a like on another site. I'm in So Cal, and as well as seed trading I'd like a mentor with advice on what to plant when etc for my zone (10).
I'm mostly interested in edibles. Right now the only thing I have to ofer is california poppy seeds (popping in a bag for the last few days), and enthusiasm :)

Hi Im a new guy here as well. Im from North Texas (small town north of wichita falls) and am intrested in all types of plants/flowers. My wifes personal favorite are hibiscus and I love colorful weird plants/trees. I've seen some beautiful banana trees I would like, but I get freeze here and that probably wouldnt be good. Honestly I like a lot of plants/trees that I wouldnt be able to have in my zone and even if someone wanted to adopt me without sending me anything, that would be fine. I just need a little help with my zone and what I can or cant, should or shouldn't plant. I have all types of sun: IN the Front I have Full Sun then Part shade because of awnings. In the back I have full shade because of trees. 1 pecan and another I dont know but nice shade tree. On one side of the house I have Full sun because its an empty space. Just field to play on. I started growing adenium seeds and hopefully I can get them to grow... We will see in time. I know these arnt going to be bed plants but pot plants because of my freeze but I like I said I love exotic/weird plants and wanted to give this a shot. So adopt me and help with a little advice and share some seeds for me to gain experience! Thanks. Oh and I also love the lilly of the nile. They are plain but amazing at the same time. Love the color.

Sorry I've been MIA, folks! My wedding went wonderfully and we're enjoying a "lazy" honeymoon at home. :) Funny, for how lazy everyone mentioned it would be, we've been doing a lot of work! We've been spring (yeah, I know, it's late, but I was planning a wedding!) cleaning the house, storage building in the backyard and the storage building I've had to rent for the last year. We've also been getting my older children moved from my house and off on their own. One of my foster daughters moved back to Texas with my first husband, who is her brother. My other foster daughter is moving back to Alabama this weekend. And my two oldest boys, aged 20 and 18, who had to move up here to get away from my 2nd husband harassing them, are looking for a place to get together and we're helping with that.

Aside from all of that, we've been working on the yard. And my new husband pretty much rebuilt my two youngest boys' captain's beds.

Okay, so enough of all that! Welcome to all of the Newbies that have signed up!!! Welcome to Garden Web! We're so happy to meet you and get to know you!

I'm still officially on honeymoon, but I'm going to take some time over the next few days to look at the new arrivals. Hopefully I'll find another newbie to adopt and teach the ways of GW to!

As an update, Shae (kawaii-fruit) did wonderfully in our trade and I feel she'll be a marvelous addition to GW! I hope she enjoyed it as much as I did and learned something new, even though she'd already had a trade or two :)

Well congrats on the marrage! Lazy never means doing nothing anymore... Theres ALWAYS something to do.. Especially cleaning around the house, but then when I complain about it someone always says "thats part of home ownership" so.... Thats part of home ownership!!! Im sure "working" on the yard isnt really working right? I enjoy cleaning up the beds and looking for new ideas, its more relaxing to me because you have an excuse to not really work and just have fun with your hobby. Right? Anyways thanks for the warm welcome and I was wondering, what part of OK you from? Im in N.TX pretty close to OK. So we would have close to the same weather if your from the southern part, then you would be able to relate to my weather and help me out sometime!
