Everybody,everything is going good here (Knock On Wood)....We finally got rain no more drought,grass is growing like crazy,Cows ,horses are all good,chickens are ok.I still have 2 young swans to sell.Hopefully brfore winter.we moved cows yrsterday to different pasture.reg.Texas Longhorns.Flowers are all blooming sopretty.Pool is cool...Not looking for fall & winter though

Cold here in Eastern PA, seems like summer ended abruptly this year.

I'm debating about getting another dog. Two of our collies passed away, so now we're a one-collie household. Doesn't feel natural to me. I'm used to moving at the center of a swirling pack of happy dogs. My husband prefers less fur to vacuum and fewer vet visits.

I've found several nice Belgian Malinois to adopt, but need to be careful about bringing an adult dog into our household. I don't want the chickens/sheep/horse/cats/ducks to get hurt.

You'd think looking for another dog would be a fun process, but it's actually kind of hard. It's difficult to look at pictures of shelter dogs online, I want to take them all.

raining here in middle tenn. getting ready to start a small barn we have got 10 nanny's that will start kidding in early december through january.we had portible sheds now were over populated got a total of 26 goats plus 3 pyreneese guard dogs. nothing beats this good old country living . ps fixing to start raising calfs later on .

Well it's been a hot summer here in this part of middle Tenn which is 30 minutes from Nashville Tenn. The pastures are fairing better then I have seen in the past but the rain that we have gotten was just in the nick of time. My herd of 14 pets goats have enjoyed the summer and have more grass in their lots then I have seen in the past summers but I know they seem to do better when cooler temp arrive, I know I look farward to cooler fall temps. Its been a busy summer with all my projects. I first build 2 raised veg beds which supplied me with tomotoes and squash and egg plants and sweet and hot peppers most of the summer. I now have turnip green growning in the beds. I accomplished many project around the house this spring and summer. I replaced the bio filter in my garden pond with a larger 100 gal size, I then built a 10'x10' foot brick patio and built a wood bench. I also build a small foot bridge over a lit creek that crosses over to my veg garden. I also built a rock fire pitI still have to paint my yard fence which is wood, I'll use the electric spray paint gun to accomplish that task, I also have to build a type of trellis for my climatis vines to grow up on. I purchased 6 bareroot climatis vines in the early spring and I have them growing in pots right now but would love to get them in the ground before winter.I'm thinking of use a cattle panel to build the trellis's. Temps have dropped some 20 degrees this month. AND we got a nasty mini-flood. It took two hours for us to get home that night! Had to go around to the south of E'Town then North of Fort Knox then West to near Irvington, and south to get back home!

I know that if it is chilly in Kentucky, it has to be freezing north along the Great Lakes!

Found a couple of Kentucky sources for Dominique chickens. Will be able to get a dozen or so in spring. Still have a couple of pullets left from the last hatch of Rhode Island Reds, one hen and one possible roo out of four hatchlings.

Gave the pups that killed the other chicks back to my parents. They were hunting and eating rabbits and digging moles. Chewed everything they got their teeth into. They were just too much trouble! Wouldn't mind getting a nice border collie who would round the critters up without killing them.

Finally got the pastures bushhogged, killed all the ragweed before it set seed. When we got the lawn mower running again I mowed the rest of the weeds down. Am hoping for a nice Indian summer to bring the grass up for winter pasture. A real tractor is on the wish list, but doesn't seem to be on the horizon for this year. Right now I'm thrilled to have a riding mower instead of having to PUSH.

As our second year here at Jordan's Croft winds down, I am glad we have so many needed projects completed. We started with a blank slate, no barn or fences. Worked on the barn all winter to get stalls, a poultry coop, hay loft and a grain/tack room.

I can look around with a great feeling of satisfaction for us to have come this far.

well its october now & I hardly have a farm, but I'm almost ready for the cold Long Island winter.
DH is building an automatic chicken door for the coop & PVC feeders. I think we need to add one more nest too.
I'm deciding what I want to grow in the greenhouse, DH bought a small potbelly stove off craigslist that might go in the greenhouse. I've got to clean out the raised beds, I'm hoping next years garden will be better, this year my attempt at truly organic gardening from seeds was not too great. I learned a lot though.
In the spring I'm getting a rabbit, just as a pet so we'll need to build a hutch.
I think DH & I have decided that it is our five year plan to get out of NY, we were drooling over TN & KY farms for sale online all weekend. My craving to have more land & hubbys desire to be self sufficient is too strong. The winters here are terrible, the propery taxes are crazy. I've had it.

Great goat pics, I want pygmys so bad, but we just don't have enough land.

Wow, is it October already? We will be harvesting shrimp at our catfish farm every weekend for the rest of the month. I'm building a barn while the weather is still ok. I'll see how far I can get. Foundation is in already.
