protecting trunks

As I said in another thread, deer have girdled some of my young apple trees and damaged others by rubbing. These trees are big enough to withstand some browsing on their lower branches, which will probably be removed later anyway, so I don't want to put them back in the fence circles I use for trees for the first three years or so. I have lots of corrugated drain pipe, the black stuff, and it is easy to cut and put around the trunks. In addition to protecting the trunk from deer rubs it also protects against weedwhacker damage. However, as it is black I was wondering if it might be a problem during hot weather. Is that a concern and are there any other problems associated with this?
