Vine for a telephone pole
Comments (10)Thanks PeeBee for shedding light on the fact that it will take awhile to cover. I am preparing this house so the current homeover can sell it so cutting it down would be the correct thing to do. Oh, I was having so much fun being creative instead of thinking clearly. Thanks everyone else who responded. I needed an answer quickly since I will be installing the plant material this week and was very surprised and appreciative for the quick replies....See MoreTraining beans up telephone pole
Comments (5)Dean, what I would do is to drive (4) 6" long spikes into the pole (each 90 degrees apart) a few inches above the bottom. Drive (4) matching spikes above them, as far up as you can reach (or as high as the vines will climb). For better support against strong winds, you might place an extra spike in the middle between each set. Drive the spikes in a couple inches, leaving about 4 inches sticking out. Tie strong strings between the spikes. You will end up with 4 vertical strings, equally spaced around the circumference. Because the strings stand out from the pole, the vines will be able to climb around them... and as the leaves begin to fill in the space, the pole should be completely covered. The spikes should last for years, you'd only need to change the string each year. Visualizing this makes me wish my telephone pole was abandoned!...See Morekind o' long, but a 'deck' of a story
Comments (3)Whatever works for you. It seems like you enjoyed the project, and still enjoy the results. That's good, because you'll probably have to do it again before too long. Poplar was a bad choice for decking. Just my opinion, but I'm sticking with it. steve...See MoreTelephone pole wiring value
Comments (28)I appreciate all the responses since I last was over here. I'm glad to see no one would be deterred if the line was there. It's the only pole on the street (going down it I counted, of seven or so) that will have a wire. All of the poles in our area are looking sad, I noticed. I think Nashville is going to have to pony up and fix a lot of them. One pole somewhere else in our neighborhood, but not my street, I saw had three old wires, and instead of replacing it, they had two new wire loops like the one they put in my yard. I thought to myself, if it needs five wires maybe it's time to replace the pole! Dang ;) It'll be ok. They are reviewing my request and haven't said no. But if they do, I get it. The pole is probably for loads of people, and it's better to be safe than anything else. That I am anal about. We need poles to stay upright....See Moremountainman_bc
