You know, it was not expensive in money OR time to do this, it was pretty darned simple. :) DH got a PS EyeToy color camera for $5.00 at Gamestop, and YahooLive is the host for the cam, sound and chat, at no cost to us. My husband had the know-how to get things going, but you can find out online and it isn't difficult or complicated. The number of people viewing the cam and talking in chat crashes my husband's computer sometimes, but we just restart things and everything's fine. We wanted to hatch chicks anyway, so thought we'd share the experience. The cam just pointed through the viewing panes in the lid of the incubator, now we set it inside the brooder box. Baby chicks DO have a wonderful effect on all who gaze upon them, it's like Valium for your eyes. *L* And yeah, it is VERY remarkable that Chicken Sister has babies this late in life--but then, both of the boys LOVE her to distraction, you should have seen them run over and burble over her when we brought her back from the vet after her egg-binding adventure. What a couple of love-struck chuckleheads. :) It was very sweet, they missed her so! We'll be hatching again the weekend of June 21st, and will resume chickam then, if anyone wants to watch. We will have our incubators issues solved before we start more eggs. Velvet ~:>

Is the eye discharge foamy? Could be Infectious Coryza. I don't know offhand if that particular disease affects turkeys, but I'd suggest researching on the web respiratory diseases in turkeys and see what you can dig up. Different drugs treat different diseases, so be sure to get the correct drug and follow label instructions for dosing turkeys. If you suspect a contagious disease, I'd treat them all. Whether it's an illness or adjusting to a new home & people, it's stressful so give them unflavored Pedialyte to drink (at the grocery store in the baby aisle) to boost their electrolytes. Keeping them warm and quiet and out of drafts can also help them to get better. Extra goodies such as live mealworms or crickets will give them an extra protein boost and they LOVE them. Fresh greens and such are also good--anything that keeps them eating, occupied and happy--and for birds such as chickens and turkeys, eating = happy. :) Velvet ~:>

Hello everyone, i have been so busy have not had time to write. I finally finished the second bed,and spent the weekend looking for different types of compost. I only found three,all the rest are basically the same in Florida at least around here. I did find one Blueberry bush ,YEAH ,seems healthy... I changed the soil and transplanted to a bigger pot I have it in the morning sun and afternoon shade we will see. I planted some watermelon in 2 of the block cells as an experiment they are growing quick and seem happy.. I planted some tomatoes in containers and have them next to the blueberries.I also planted an herb garden in 2 containers i had for awhile they contain, Rosemary,basil,parsley,thyme,oregano,also some spearmint and peppermint. Within 2 days the Bugs have located and began thier attack,whiteflies and mites i belive..... i have been holding them off with palmolive and water. A friend told me ivory soap 2 tblespoons mixed in 1 quart warm water or liquid castile soap same mix,works well I'll try it.... I have to get the soil in the beds this weekend and finish mulching around the beds...I kickin around with idea of micro sprinkler sytem on a timer.They are fairly inexpensive and would work well with my goofy schedule. I have not recieved my worms yet but the compost pile seems to be doing well.Guess i'll have to call uncle Jim's and see what the delay is.. Almost forgot i ordered my muscadine grapes they will be here in Oct,along time to wait but i need to prepare the soil anyway so it worrks out well.. You're so lucky to have the turkey babies! Hopefully you'll get to see them grow up and then come back with their own babies next year. I usually get turkey babies here but this year has been a bust - only one and that one at a great distance. Maybe due to the unusually cold spring, or maybe predators. Some of the adults are still around. Claire
