clavate tortoise beetle on tomato leaf...
Comments (1)You'll want to keep an eye out on your tomato and pepper plants, and anything else in that particular plant family (Solanaceae). They seem to like those the best. If you begin seeing more damage than you think the plants can tolerate, just keep them picked off (by hand) and disposed of. Google further to see what the eggs and larvae look like, too, so that you can nip a potential problem in the bud. That could be a job for the 8 year old!...See MoreRosemary Beetle
Comments (2)Unfortunately SE London is supposed to be the centre of the rosemary beetle outbreak. I'm in that area too. Curiously I haven't had it particularly bad earlier this year but they came back with a vengeance a few weeks ago and I'm having to pick them off every day. I keep finding mating pairs - arrgh, the last thing I need is more of them! Interesting that you found that some bushes haven't been affected. I wonder if they have a real preference or whether they're just so busy chomping away on the current ones that they haven't got around to it yet? They can be a bit contrary sometimes as two years ago they were my prime suspects for a defoliated hyssop bush (they will attack others in the mint family sometimes) but ever since they have left them alone and have stuck to the rosemary. I have no idea what cultivar I have in my garden, which was bought several years back....See MoreBeetle I.D.
Comments (3)Looks like one of the various Tortoise beetle family, likely the Mottled Tortoise. May punch some small holes in the occasional leaf but they are not considered a pest or garden threat. Dave...See MoreWhat kind of beetle? And how do I get rid of them?
Comments (12)I saw one in my Perle D’or and according to the insect app it’s the oriental beetle (not the Japanese beetle) ...I usually let beetles be in the garden but this time I didn’t want to risk to have another pest on roses. I found another today on the Havana Blues geranium...same fate, cup of soapy water ah well. See if yours it’s a match to the pdf description, google images too. http://cues.cfans.umn.edu/old/Web/247OrientalBeetle.pdf...See Moredigdirt2
