WANTED: Unable to update email address - many trys

Many trys later my contact email address is not updating. Need help to change it - can't find where to get assistance.

Please respond here you can't reach me by the current email OBVIOUSLY.

Up there by your name is a tab labelled Your Profile..I'll bet you can do it from there...Best of luck.

Just for giggles and grins I went and tried to temporarily change my email address. Hmmm...as you said, it just won't update.

I'd suggest you going to the link below and asking GW for assistance. The Contact Us link is found at the bottom of any page. You might also mention to them that I tried it and it wouldn't work for me either.

You do not have to have your email displayed after your username to be able to have emails sent directly to your email address. For example, if you click on my name, it will bring you to the member page. You will see "send me an email." If you click that to send me an email, you will not see my email address. When I receive an email, I can then decide whether I want to reply and at the point my email address will be revealed. I cannot say how I actually got it to work this way, but it must be in the way you set up your gardenweb account. You can probably change yours. Try clicking on "your profile" on the top right hand side. It may be the part on your member page that says "show my email address to." For me, I have it set on "member." Hope it works. By the way, I have been a member of this forum for two years and have never received any spam. In fact, I have had an opportunity to interact with some really nice members!

Dead for me too. I don't seem to have any involvement with any of the companies listed, unfortunately, my 84 yr old mother does. Now, if I can just somehow convince her that not all arriving into her 'in box' is legitimate mail, that it really is OK to delete things without opening :( Here's the CNN report from a few days ago - it doesn't sound wildly dangerous if people are just vigilant about spam and phishing attempts - and know not to click on those links. I do a lot more reading these day! Books are my friends LOL I have found in doing some investigating that in all of the big hotmail changes (whether we want them or not unfortunately) they are also making some very sneaky changes and putting some peoples info out there with out them knowing it. I have zero info about me on my hotmail info so nothing to share there but here are some interesting things pointed out in windows secrets article. Hotmail's social networking busts your privacy I never look at the new today page I have mine set to go directly to my inbox so I had no idea about all the stuff that is now shown on that page. I just looked at mine and I can see lists of several people that I know and in the lists it tells who they are new friends with! I am sure these people have no idea this info is being broadcast all over the place. for those that use hotmail, windows live, messenger etc any of those you should definitely read the article and check out these settings. My big peeve is when they ask for your phone or email & you decline; they give you dirty looks because they're usually younger & don't feel that it's a big deal handing your info out. Comcast automatically gives a name account like that from what I remember. Years ago; when I 1st came to GW I used SBA; then Spike made us all "join" & we rushed to figure out a unique user name. There have been times I couldn't get Roselvr- Ebay it was already taken; but managed to with both Comcast & Gmail. We lost the Capital letters a few years ago; pretty sure it was after iVillage bought it. It's the one thing that ticks me off. I wish they would have been able to fix it.

Update...I got mine to change just fine.

First I got a message in RED that the email address was already in use in the GW system. I must have used it at some time or another with another GW user name.

Then I tried using another email address. Then I got a RED message requiring me to fill in my First and Last Names. Once I filled those in, it allowed me to update just fine.

I'd suggest you trying it again, watching for any messages that appear in red.

Used the MY PROFILE to the right of my user name in the upper right of webpage. I also changed my email by deleting only the part of the address that had changed and then filling in the change (first part@second part.extension - to first .extension to first partnew @ second part new.extension).
