Why are my cucumbers yellow?

superOK

I'm growing Persian cucumbers and while the plant seems to be flourishing for the most part (nice, green leaves & yellow flowers), the cucumbers are pale to yellow. I've read in some forums that yellow could be an indicator of over-ripening but I don't think that's the case here since the cucumbers were never green to start with. Several cukes grew to about 2-3 inches which I harvested and ate today. They tasted fine though not very crispy.

One more thing I should mention, I noticed a couple of days ago that there were about 3 leaves that were developing a powdery mildew which I promptly cut off.

Anybody have an idea why my cukes are yellow? Oh and if anybody has a good remedy against powdery mildew that would be great too! The powdery mildew has really infected the kabocha squash plant I have growing nearby.
