Qualifying as a working farm

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and my husband and I are new to farm life as adults. We lived in the country and spent time of the farm as kids but now we have our own little place. I'd like to have chickens and some sheep for wool. How do you find out what your state requires for you to be classified as a 'real' farm. We would like to get to the point where we were able to sell some of our eggs/chickens/wool but don't know where to find that info. Any info would be appreciated and I'm really enjoying reading your posts... particularly enjoyed advice on killing a mean rooster. Lots of humor mixed with good advice on a 'delicate' subject.
