G.M., You know, I had noticed the mis-labeled Burpee seed packets at Wal-Mart, and that is not the first time that I have seen Burpee seed packets that I felt were mislabeled. And, as we have discussed on another thread, we had the severe storms and flooding here, but our hail was (thankfully!) small and did no damage. Gayfeather grows with wild abandon here in pastures. It is very drought tolerant and also can handle clay soil that gets quite waterlogged at times. Mine tends to bloom in late July to August. The butterflies and bees love it. I think you will be happy with it. Okiegardener, Was your Black-eyed Susan Vine in full sun? Mine is simply covered with flowers most years. It blooms a little later than most of my annual vines, but at times the blooms are so numerous they almost obscure the leaves. Needless to say, it reseeds everywhere. Blytherbean, In my garden the cardinal climber grows mainly upward and then cascades back down, but it is in a location where it gets morning sun and afternoon shade. If you want to get it to grow both vertically and horizontally on your chain link fence, just train some of the side branches to grow sideways by weaving them horizontally through the fence. You will get faster cover of the fence this way than if you wait for it to first go all the way to the top of the fence and then cascade back down and spread sideways. I always do this with my moonflowers. And, y'all, if you don't grow moonflowers, I encourage you to give them a try. They won't bloom until later on in the summer, but their fragrance is heavenly and they attract moths at night. Just watching the flowers unfurl each evening is fun. We have friends who stop by sometimes just to see the moonflowers bloom. I interplant mine with morning glories so I have the morning glory blooms in the morning and for part of the day and the moonflower blooms from mid-evening to morning. Dawn

OK - here's what I have as far as pre-arranged trades: Brenda - for lunch, I'm bringing obedient plant and some salvias. Cheryl - for painted pots, I'm bringing striped cannas. Heather, for a daylily and Danish flag poppy seeds, I am bringing a rooted Confederate rose cutting and winter honeysuckle. Nik - for white iris, tiny pecan, and raspberry, I am bringing two of the primrose jasmine (and your pick of something else). Pam - for short yellow cannas, I am bringing striped cannas (Pretoria and Tropicana). Phyllis - for blue sedum and a pink lily, I am bringing Carolina buckthorn and a primrose jasmine. Sally - for sweet flag, I am bringing elderberries. Susan - for bog sage and solidago fireworks, I am bringing some rooted fig cuttings (and care info) plus your pick of anything that catches your fancy. Just to list some extras that I hope to remember: : bay leaves (if I remember where I put the bag of them) - these are also good for keeping bugs out of your pantry, even if you don't cook with them. : Carolina buckthorn : Cashmere bouquet : Eastern red cedar seedlings : Elderberries : Hall's honeysuckle : obedient plant : a friend with a lot of great stuff of her own potted up Can't wait! princesspeony - You mentioned : Moonvine - Ipomoea alba or perhaps I.turbinata Cardinal Climber - Ipomoea sloteri Cypress Vine - Ipomoea quamoclit Mina Lobata - This was changed to Ipomoea lobata many years ago , but marketers insist on using it Morning Glories - I.nil,I.purpurea, I.tricolor and others These can all be pinched back to some degree depending on how long the vines are now and how much sun they are able to get... I'd say you can pinch back any vines over 1 foot back to 6 inches...anything over a foot long can be pinched back to 1 foot... Hope that helps...
