Why is my cucumber fuzzy?
Comments (2)Well, guess what -- the photo on the left, yours, IS an Armenian cucumber, and a nice one at that. Congrats. Eat and enjoy. The photo on the right on the Ferry Morse package is NOT an Armenian cuke -- looks like some kind of Japanese Burpless type to me. THEY MESSED UP -- THEY PUT THE WRONG PHOTO ON THEIR SEED PACKETS. Perhaps a mistake, perhaps (probably not) a deceptive marketing practice. At least they got the right seeds in the package. It happens....See MoreWhy are these maples dying? (photos)
Comments (1)I see the possibility of several things going on. First, they do not appear to be planted correctly, although the mulch may be obscuring my view. They should be planted so the root flare - where the trunk widens out into the root system - is just above the soil line. 'Telephone poling' - or planting too deeply - can seriously shorten the life of the tree. Also the mulch is too close to the trunk - you want to keep mulch a proper distance away from the base of the tree, at least 3" all the way around. The sudden wilting and the discolored wood exposed on the cut branch could be signs of a serious disease issue, Verticillium wilt. Maples are very prone to this soil borne pathogen and can react very suddenly, especially if they have been under stress for some reason (like poor planting methods). However, there are other pathogens that can create similar symptoms so your best bet is to have the trees looked at by a qualified arborist....See MoreMy maidenhead is dying, and I don't know why.
Comments (3)If you're growing this indoors, it will be very difficult to keep it happy over the long term because of heat or air conditioning sucking moisture from the air. I had to put mine under a cloche over the winter to keep it from dying. Unless you live in a dry climate, it will be much happier outdoors (in the shade)....See MoreMy money tree is dying and I don’t know why
