Nothing is wrong. That is a normal and healthy coloration of some squash, primarily zucchini.

That is what mine looks like too, and it's starting to get zucchini on it. I thought something was wrong at first, too. Glad to know it's OK! I don;'t remember the ones last year looking like that, but they were seedlings I got from HD, this one is one I stared myself, a different variety.

Yup, that's what a zucchini leaf should look like. Other squashes will generally be more of a solid green, but zucchini leaves are very distinctive. I don't bother labeling my zucchini and yellow squashes any more, because the difference is clear from the start.

orangehero, I think I know what you mean. The picture you posted is of the healthy plant but the unhealthy plant does not have mottled leaves? The sick leaves are dark green and small? Is this right? I posted a similar question in a separate thread. Maybe someone will respond.

Don't feel bad--I treated mine with milk because I thought it was powdery mildew!!!!

My zuke plants looked like that last year. I thought they were sick and/or had powdery mildew or something. They were completely healthy and normal. I got more than 100 zukes from 4 plants.

This is the other plant...hope it will continue to grow and end up fine.

Also included is a photo of a beetle, could anyone identify if it is friend or foe?

I agree, don't think anything is wrong with that plant. I planted, Floridor -- yellow eight ball zucchini, has the same leaf pattern. According to Johnny's (where I ordered the seed), that is the way it is supposed to look.

It looks like a Firefly to me (lightning bug). As far as I know they do not eat your plants or veggies ... they go for the nectar or pollen. As larva they eat other larva, snails, and slugs.
