Wow - I couldn't find a picture of the seed- and I do not remember what mine looked like when I tried it years ago- but I did find some information that may be useful, It is in the Aster family, and the seeds ripen in August. The scented flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are pollinated by Insects. So, all heads have the potential to have seeds- "The fruit is a brown obovate achene with an emarginate apex, appearing in autumn. Sometimes 2-toothed." So- methinks it is very similar to an aster seed- more so than a sunflower seed (although it could be wrapped in the husk like a sunflower) or a zinnia (flat with 2 teeth) or a rudbeckia (rod shaped)- I really wish I had a pic- or a better description- but I hope this little bit will help you- Julie

I have more seedlings than I have space! A happy problem but still I don't want to compost the extras. :-D Another low-maintenance native with a cool prehistoric look. The plant itself is short, the flower stalk very tall. If you don't have a plant I'm wanting to collect I will consider giveaways if you're willing to drive to the western 'burbs. I've had some difficulty in the past with trades going thru...I don't know if emails get lost in the system or what's going on. So, just posting here isn't going to work. The link didn't work for me; probably because it's nearly a year old? I saw a really nice stand of compass plant a few weeks ago, and didn't have time to stop. I was going to go on a "field trip" later this week to harvest some seed; it should be mature by now. Anyone have any tips for growing compass plant from seed?
