ivermectin injectable most likely will work

For lice control, I use permethrin (a semi-synthetic derivative of Painted Daisies). A common one is Synergized DeLice, which is applied with a little squirt bottle along the back of the goat from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. Try not to get it into her eyes or it will sting for a little while (personal experience). You should see results in 1-2 weeks. It doesn't affect milk in any way. It can be sprayed (diluted) in the bedding area, and allow to dry for a few hours before letting the goat back in. Do it in the morning of a nice day when the goat won't mind staying outside for a while.

I'm not sure of the seven dust. Personally, I wouldn't use it without talking to the vet first.

I would use a powder on the outside of the fur and work it in to the skin. There is a product called Corral, and it is basically seven dust. We have also used the people lice shampoo with good results on our market goats. Once again, since they were going into the food chain, we couldn't use anything that could get absorbed into the meat, like a pour on. The shampoo worked great. I don't know your climate right now, but if you could shampoo now and follow up according to the instructions it would probably do it as well.

My wife isn't here so I don't know the name of this stuff. But the basic ingredient is permethrin (sp?). The dose is determined by the animals weight. You draw it up in a syringe and squirt it down from neck to tail. Then to get the next batch of hatched lice you reapply it in (I think) 14 days. It's fine to use on meat animals although there may be a withdrawal time.

Thank you all for the help. I used a "people" lice shampoo and washed her down really good, and then found some dairy spray to spray her and the barn down. so far no more lice, but I am going to follow up next week to be sure.

The product I was talking about that's applied by syringe is Durasect. It's a permethrin product and has no withdrawal time. There's no neeed to carry out chemical expeirmentation on your goat. Why not check out Merck or other veterinary manual and find out the hatching cycle for the lice. Next week may be too soon to retreat. Tom

While all the respondents here are well-meaning, you need to follow skagit_goat_man's advice - find an APPROVED product and use it correctly, according to label directions.
Goats are not small cows. CoRal is not Sevin - and neither are approved for use on lactating dairy goats.
The injectible ivermectin type products are not recommended for use in goats due to their use in that manner contributing to development of anthelminthic-resistant nematode parasites.

shellybabe, you might try the Adams Flea and Tick mist with IGR (Insect Growth Regulator). They also make a shampoo. It's a pyrethrin-based products with other ingredients as well. I'd ask your vet his opinion as the whether it is safe for milk goats. I use this product on my chickens with no ill effects. I used to use Sevin. The Adams, though, is less messy than Sevin and you can better spray the animal enclosures with it, too. It gets down in the nooks and crannies better than Sevin, in my opinion.

If you use the Adams, make SURE to get the kind with IGR (the bottle, unfortunately, is IDENTICAL to the one without except for the letters, 'IGR' after the name). The IGR kills insects AND hatching eggs for three months--you get lots of bang for your buck, and you don't need to reapply it within days to get the hatching eggs--the IGR takes care of it!

The Adams IS very expensive, but readily available in feed stores and the like. It's marketed for dogs and cats. You can look it up online to find out more about it, Valley Vet Supply is online and they have it.
