You really don't want them to set seed in your beds or you'll have a nightmare to deal with.

They'll also climb your plants and compete with them for nutrients/water/sunlight.

The headache potential is pretty high.

VERY invasive plants. I sure wouldn't want them anywhere near my food gardens and I can guarantee that my tomato plants would not appreciate their presence any more than my asparagus beds appreciate the ones I constantly have to rip out of there.

There is a place in the veggie garden for many different flowers but morning glories is not one of them. ;)

Some how I got morning glory's in my garden about 4 years ago. I have never planted any morning glory's in my garden. Last year I tried to keep then cut down so they would not reseed. But Looks like they are back again this year. I also noticed that a corn field down the road last year was over run with them. Every time it rains more come up. Believe me you don't want any morning glory's in your garden. They are so bad here I am thinking about not planting a garden next year. so I can till after each rain and spray roundup on the dad gum morning glory's. Anyone know how to get rid of them.

They're considered a weed around here. Every few weeks I head to my parents' garden, Mom's been battling the same Morning Glory plant for 40 years now and I take my turn at ripping it out, digging it out, untangling it from the hydrangia and anything else it's grabbed on to. I wouldn't plant that anywhere, never mind near a garden you want to grow other plants in. ;^)

You all might want to check out the difference between morning glories and field and hedge bindweed. Bindweed, which looks an awful lot like small morning glories, is pretty nearly impossible to eradicate, once established, even with Roundup. It has been found quite alive with roots buried many feet underground for 20 years.

The problem is that the two vine-varieties can cross-pollinate resulting in great vigor. While true morning glories can be eradicated with treatment like careful uprooting and seed-pod destruction, nobody has found a way to successfully eradicate bindweed once it gets established on a widespread basis in a field or other large area.

So, njmomma, you won't get much support from gardeners who've had to deal with bindweed or crosses of bindweed with morning glories.

MGs can be lovely, with all those colors, but I'll just enjoy the pictures. I've been battling bindweed for years at this location where I'm living now.

Def. not bindweed and non of that around here. I grew the MG from seed that I bought at a store. I guess I'll just bring them to my parents house but they aren't morning risers so they will probably never see them bloom. hmmmm.

Yes, you probably don't have bindweed in mostly urban areas. I lived at the Jersey shore for 25 years and NEVER saw a lot of insect pests, invasive weeds, and plant diseases that are so prevelant where there are lots of gardens and they can all spread.

Actually, I'd probably grow them but just keep them away from my edible plants. I have grown them and moonflowers when I lived in NC and found neither one to be invasive, though I didn't plant them by my garden. I just wouldn't plant them here because I have INFESTATIONS of bindweed that would only be strengthened by cross-breeding.
