How many morning glories do I need?
Comments (11)Jasmine, how long did it take yours to get that size? In the photo above? I started some Heavenly Blue from seed a month ago. It put them all over: in full sun, it part sun, in shadier areas. They germinated super fast but are slow growers. So far, they are mostly 4-5" - the ones that survived being eaten by pests or fried in the sun. My best growing one is actually inside, in a 4" starter pot, with regular watering. Contrary to what it says on the packet and the internet, it's in moist Miracle Grow, as opposed to the dry, well draining soil outside. It was started at the same time, but in the last 5 days, it shot up at least 10"! I want mine to do what yours are doing! :)...See MoreSide note to getting rid of bermuda-How do you get rid of Oxalis?
Comments (9)The common yellow oxalis we have here has tiny "bulbules" (sp?), which lurk 12 -18 inches under the ground. You can easily pull up the plants, of course, but those tiny bulb things stay under the soil, and up it comes again. I once had a gardener who decided to eradicate it from a flower bed which is about 12 feet long and 6 feet wide. He actually dug up the top 2 feet of soil, and sifted it by hand to get all of the tiny bulbs out. That worked for the first year, but by 2-3 years after he did that, back the oxalis came. So, being lazy, what I do is just admire it in the Spring, except where it is trying to smother other plants. Then just pull it out around those plants. By late Spring here it has died down, and I pretend it is gone. Of course, it comes up again the next Spring. It is one of our first blooming plants to bloom (starts Jan/Feb), so I just regard it as such and let it be mostly. One of my cats likes to eat it (we used to eat it as children - we called it "sour grass"). Jackie...See MoreCarrie's Bush Morning Glories are beginning to strut their stuff!

Comments (2)It seems to get still greener as it gets closer to the green cap just to the right of the yellow area (1st picture). Do you know what that green cap goes to? Could there be a low spot where it's greener? The tall grass circles in the last picture is "just" a grassy weed. I'm not up on northern lawn herbicides, so I'll let someone else help with that. You should not have to treat for grubs annually. Grubs are typically a problem in July and August, if they are going to be a problem. If you suspect you might have grubs, dig up one square foot of turf and inspect. If you see fewer than a dozen grubs, place the turf back and leave it alone. That is normal. If you have an uncountable mass of grubs, then you need to treat. But in a normal 10- year period you might have grubs once. Besides insecticides are really not good for the rest of the insects and microbes living in the soil. How are you watering? You seem to have done some reading on this forum, so you've probably read my thoughts on deep and infrequent watering....See Moredaphnexduck
