The one I have is very sweet! I purchased her last spring as a doeling. She had been pastured raised and wasn't used to people. It took her a while to get used to me, but has always had a sweet personality.
She isn't loud and doesn't get pushy at feeding time. I like her a lot, and probably will get another one sometime in the future.
I don't spin, so I can't offer any advice there.

Glad to hear that your goat is so sweet and well-behaved. A good personality is really important to us. When you get a second goat, will you get a wether? We would probably start with 3 or 4 goats and I wonder what combination we should get (all females? a female and a wether?)

A true newbie question here - we were thinking of fencing a pasture with a run in shed for the goats. Do they also need a fully-enclosed barn? (We do have a large shed that would probably do for a barn for 2-3 goats....)

The shelter would depend on where you live. You definetly want them to be able to get out of the rain and mud and snow. Being fiber animals, you need to keep them dry and as clean as possible.
Plus, goats, for the most part, just don't like being out in the rain. Pick an area that drains well for their shelter. And the shelter should be well ventilated.
These seem to be pretty docile animals. I don't think it would matter what combination you get. You can avoid heat cycles by getting wethers. You wouldn't want a billy, unless you plan on breeding them. Billies urinate on themselves and can be a real stinky mess.
You might want to check Yahoo groups for an angora goat forum. I know they have a pygora (pygmy/angora cross) forum.

Thanks backlanelady. Our local shed dealer has a sort of barn/run-in-shed hybrid. Perhaps that would be the best for the goats as it would give them more shelter than just a run-in.

Definitely sounds like we don't want a billy goat - we are not planning on breeding anytime soon!

I bought a FB Boer doe (Glenda) that had a Boer/Agora kid. Previous owner did not have a real good fence and his Angora buck bred everything on their farm. The kid came with the doe. The only reason I got this particular girl is because I already bought her mother and she is "something." Anyway...one of the cutest little girls you ever saw. Very sweet natured and she acted like a big puppy.

We gave her to a friend of ours. Their little girl just fell in love with her the first time she saw it. I thought she was cute also...but when you are the one buying the feed...I looked at her in a "whole different light!" She wasn't going to make many burgers...if you know what I mean...she had to go.

I think any / all goats are addicting. You get one...you are bound and determined to get more. It would be better to get more than one to start. They are very social animals, they need some company. Does & wethers are a good combination...don't get a buck unless you want babies!

I also second the advice on the shelter. Goats don't need anything elaborate...just a place to stay dry and out of the weather.

Thanks backlanelady...she is certainly "fluffy!" She came with her mother when we bought Glenda (condition of sale). We really love Angel as well...that is why I tracked down Angel's daughter from 2006 to buy (Glenda). Angel is really, really long and musclular...but feminine. Exactly what we wanted for a foundation doe.

I really wasn't that impressed with Glenda when we first brought her home...but I knew the genetics she had...so we took a chance on her. Over the last year she has really started to grow out and show the length her mother gave her. We bred here to a really nice buck with color in his genes. Glenda kidded a really nice little buckling and doeling. Now lets hope this little doeling gives us some paints!

Baby...the little "boeragora" is now at a very close friends farm. They will absolutely spoil this little girl to death.

After another 27-days that website will go off line. It is a "free-trial" from Homestead. If it changes...I will post a new link here. I am sure we will buy the package...just the domain name will be different.
