Rubber Mulch Edge Border--Does it work?

I hope I've chosen the right forum for this question!

Since my husband rarely uses our string trimmer--and I'm hopeless with it--our lawn edges looked pretty shabby all summer. I was thinking of trying the rubber mulch edge border (see Easy Gardener website) as a mowing strip along the edges of our curved planting bed in the front of the house. (I thought I'd use paving bricks along the sides of the house where the planting border is completely straight.) But does anyone have any experience with this? Will bermuda grass still poke up between the masonry edging and this rubber border strip?

Thanks for your help!
