need advice on shade cloth

I live in the upper part of the lower peninsula in Michigan; compared to weather in the south (deep south or south in general) our weather is milder. However the temps in July and Aug still reach low to mid 80's, occasionally high 80's.

When I transplant out starter plants for peppers, they always get sun scald; I don't grow them myself, I get them from mail-order gardening catalogs or buy them locally.

I am wondering if I should use shade cloth for them or is it not necessary for where I'm at? I'm also wondering if I could also harvest throughout the summer with brassicas (Chinese cabbage, green cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli) and also lettuce and spinach I other things I'd like to grow throughout the summer. If I were to use shade cloth if so what percentage should I use?

I was thinking 30% for both the peppers and brassicas/lettuce/spinach (if feasible to grow throughout summer). The shade cloth would be knitted; would the plants still receive adequate sun?
