Dominique: chicken tractor plans

Dominique,

We built a chicken tractor this weekend, and believe me, it isn't hard. We made two rectangles of 2"x2" that are 3'wide and 6' long, attached the rectangles at the corners with 3' 2"x2"s, forming a box 3'high and 3' wide and 6' long, added another 2"x2" support in the middle of each 6' side, then stapled chicken wire over the whole thing. It doesn't have a door, but we did put wheels on one end and handles at the top of the other end. We used a piece of canvas tarp with grommets for shade cloth, hooking the grommets over cup hooks that we screwed into the top 2"x2"s. Any kind of shade on the back half of the tractor will work (shade cloth, old blanket, etc.) We used 2" drywall screws and a portable drill for assembly, but nails work, too (just more work!).There are plans for great chicken tractors at www.essortment.com/chickentractor and

Don't give up on your chicken tractor--it will be a lot of fun for you and your chickens!
