My Mother's Day gifts! Nigerian Dwarf Mama and son "Margarita" and "Prez" in their first minutes in quarantine in our dog run! They are both very shy and so delicate in structure they make our pygmies look like absolute hogs! I'll be spending much of my day tomorrow getting acquainted.

Uhhmmm, Poochella, you do know that Mothers day was in May, right? LOL. You're guys are cute. Now you need to milk one, and make me some goat cheese! I could live on goat cheese, just love it. What do you do with your goats? just pets?

I was busy in the garden since Mother's Day and there wasn't much around for goats that I could find! They are settling in nicely on day 3 now. Mama goat comes right up(she knows I have food) and the baby is still very shy but willing to grab a bite out of my hand and back off quick.

Always wondered what the big fuss about goats escaping was- I've never had one get out. Well, until wednesday a.m. when I heard a little bleat while out watering, came around the corner of the house to view the little cuties through the dog run fencing at a distance. "So cute," "like little gazelles" thought I, until the little gazelle mother ambled from behind the kennel and was free ranging! It only took her 13 hours to find the low spot in the kennel and burrow under it- amazing. I flew into full bore goat containment mode then because they are new and shy and not likely to come prancing up when I say to.
Hauled a lot of rocks, logs, stumps, anything I could find to barricade that little monkey IN! So far so good.

We have a lot of work to do on the big goat pasture before these two gain admission. The large goats and the chunky little pygmies could never go under or over- I forsee these two to be challenging.

The 5 month old has the sweetest little face- looks like a lamb.

Hi again, everyone, Update on the above info, offered by my friend the accountant whom I first met at the investment group about 5 years or more ago. The guy who retired last year, without a pension, and who now borrows at about 6% (interest deductible when used for investment) and puts it out to earn about 12% (much of current return at low tax rate, some of it deferred, to be taxed at low rate when withdrawn). He says that the amount of current income that that can be obtained free of tax is closer to $50,000.00. Same provisos as outlined above - with possibility of bumping up the amount that is received free of tax given some of the situations as mentioned. Sorry that the situation applies only to Canadian residents, folks. Good wishes to you and yours. ole joyful P.S. We had a visitor/new member at our investment group last week, who said that she felt rather at sea, among such skilled investors. We told her not to feel bad - that in the investment game, there are no stupid questions. That she should ask any of us to explain various terms or situations that were unfamiliar to her. Not that stock issuing entities haven't merged, disappeared, spun off for years, the break up of ATT & T really brought it to a lot of people's doorsteps. But, in your case - Contel became GTE and GTE became Verizon, so your concern would only be with Verizon now. Contel and GTE and any mountain of paper are no longer factors in the sale of some or all of your Verizon stock. As each company became something else, you were probably asked to surrender the certificates eventually receiving new certificates. Now you should be holding only Verizon cerificates. What I would hold on to would be the receipt(s) for your initial Contel purchase(s), the confirmation of the GTE buyout, and the confirmation of Verizon's buyout of GTE. Would also keep all the Verizon statements you've received since the buyout. I kind of look at it like not saving insurance policies and all the paperwork for cars I don't have anymore.

Available again this year (for 2010, not 2002, this time) ... limits about $25,000. single and $35,000. married. I was pleased with myself last year, in having arranged my affairs (via substantial charitable and some political contributions) ... ... to reduce my Federal tax load to zero. And the provincial liability was low, possibly nil, till I got down to the recently-initiated Health Levy and had to pay a few hundred for that. But I should not complain ... as I made substantial use of the healthcare services, for nil or minimal cost, during this past year. And I used to say that we should all be willing to pay a portion of the cost of running the country ... ... and then light fires under our legislators when we believed them to be running it/them improperly! The four live as one now. It took us two weeks plus to get the big enclosure (crossing fingers) goat proofed. The little wether doesn't waste any time getting to the dinner table. I wish you could see him fly through the pasture. It's where the builders of the house bulldozed alot of unusable logs/stumps a few rocks. They race up and down the logs and through the grassy areas as if it's Disneyland.
