looking for chorisia speciosa..floss silk tree seeds.. have orchid tree seeds for trade

Those plants Joe, are at a local nursery that seems to do alot of Chorisia sales. Many of the local parks are trees from them i believe. BUT,I have in the past as my job as a collections manager kept them as old potted plants. They can take a beating as mine was one of those plants that one university offer's to another( "Hey,you want that?-take it!)..way underpotted,I kept it that way for years,thorns and all. Far more under potted than the one in the photo.It also was more conventional in form-fat trunk tapering to a slim top. Around 4'. I haven't seen any at Bonsai shows and it's a shame-you can see they do well and are as exotic as all get out. I'm positive they can flower kept this way. I also had a similar looking Pachira aquatica kept the same way, but in a larger pot,flower every year. They too make great Bonsai as i also had a small group in a 6" pot..fat trunks.I'm doing the same with another group here at home..and the wife thinks there hers,hee,hee,heeee.(maniacal hee)lol. ps,The thorns circle the trunk.

I'd suggest you look for a grafted cultivar of Chorisia speciosa such as Monrovia's 'Majestic Beauty', as this cultivar is already blooming size in a 15 gallon container, and could reasonably be kept in a 30 inch diameter by 25 inch tall container, and wheeled in and out on a dolly. The straight species of either speciosa or insignis is unlikely to bloom as a container plant if it is not grafted with already blooming wood scions, as are Majestic Beauty. I hope you have some height where you will be wheeling these in out of the cold, as you should probably allow for it to be 10 to 15 feet tall including pot height for best blooming, although you might be able ot hold the tree itself to maximum 8 foot tall if you train it properly. In my experience with C. speciosa from seedlings, they can still be years away from blooming here locally even when already 25 feet tall and 8 to 10 years in the ground, although your greater heat in late summer and fall might encourage earlier blooming. I'd also advise that temps much below 27F will damage young growth, and temps at 24/25F kill even mature branches up to 3 inches in caliper, especially if these lows are sustained more than just a few hours.

I am looking for two pink Silk floss tree in exchange for one of my Baobab tree. My tree is about three years old, three feet tall, and still skinny. I think it is a fair trade because the least expensive Baobab tree currently on internet cost $330. If interested, I will send you a picture.
