Some say asclepias incarnata need no stratification...surface sow, bottom heat and germination within a few weeks. Personally, I cold stratify 60 days and have had great success at room temp since then. Wishing you the best of luck!

Cold stratification for incarnata and tuberosa is four weeks. I have plants that are about 1 inch tall. It will take them quite a while to take off. So, I don't think they will get too big before you can get them outside. I will be putting mine into individual pots this week. I started my seeds in baggies with barely moist sand, and when I took the baggies out of the fridge, I set them on my counter top until they germinated. As they germinated, I put them into a large aluminum roasting pan. As you can see, there are several steps to getting them into the garden. When I put them into their individual pots, I will grow them until they are ready to be planted outside. If you wintersow, you will eliminate steps. I just have to have mine ready for Farmer's Market in April.
