They may just need from greenery. You might try growing cat grass (wheat grass, usually) for them and see if that fulfills their craving. Most (all?) squashes are harmless to foraging kitties. Peppers and tomatoes are a big no-no.

A determined plant eating feline is gonna eat them no matter what else is on the smgåsbord. Instead of a taste thing, I would think a cat would be more put off by a smell. The surest way to get a cat to eat is to make their dinner smell good (to a cat.) Any strong smelling oil (like peppermint) should work; I hear orange and lemon rinds are also good repellents. That and some follow-up with a squirt gun will probably do it.

Please don't use something like tabasco or other hot pepper. The cats will try to clean themselves and then get it in their eyes and other tender spots. It will be horribly cruel.

My solution? My cat is a determined, die-hard vegetation eater. I'm doing my (cat-enclosed) courtyard in kitty-friendly plants for my four legged master, complete with grassy knoll and intoxicating herbs. The poor dracaena spikes have a very bad haircut... but she's ignoring the pretty plants inside. (Which are also cat friendly, but I don't want chewed.)

Oh, I have plenty of cat grass available for them all the times. They just think the whole garden is their cat grass ;)

The tobasco thing is noted, I will try peppermint oil. if that doesn't work, well, I'll just deal then. Thanks!

Cat Deterrents for your Garden:

Keep in mind that each cat is different (like people), what works for one may not necessarily work for another. On the plus side, most cats will keep pesty squirrels, moles and other critters out of your garden. Even if it's one cat out of 500 infected in this way, that's one too many for me.
*** Don't ever use mothballs or flakes. Those little toxic waste pellets destroy cats' kidney function, could seriously harm people who handle them, and yes, contaminate your own garden soil. Their packaging even warns against using them this way.

+ Pick the cat up and bring it to eye level with the plant to see and smell it up close. Usually, once a cat seen and sniffed at the plant, she usually doesn't bother with it later.

+ give them their own plants - i.e., pots of grass for her to chew on and a place in a large planted container on her balcony with some miscanthus grass in it (the cat likes to curl up in that for some reason)

+ if the cats are strictly indoors and attracted to your houseplants, grow catgrass for them. If someone forced you to remain inside one enclosed structure all your life, you might be attracted to the plants too.

As a gardener, grow your indoor cat some catgrass and catnip. They're healthy alternatives for your houseplants and they'll much prefer them.

Change the litter to something they prefer. If you don't clean it out everyday, consider it. Cat's appreciate a clean, comfortable place to go just as much as humans do.

Oscar and Zorro, my Maine Coons, don't bother any of my foliage except my hanging basket of catnip, which they climb to get to. They just nibble at leaves though. While the 4x4 that the basket is hanging on is getting a few scratches, the job they do keeping the yard free of any vermin is well worth it. I may very well begin hanging more baskets of catnip just to watch those fools get to it :)

Keep in mind that a cat, even one who nibbles, usually does far more good as a pest defense than he could ever do harm as a muncher.
