Ah, I can easily explain this -- it isn't corn (Zea mays) it's a stalk of some variety of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor), likely a sweet sorghum or a broom corn, hence the "odd" appearance. You can see the seed head beginning to tassel out at the top of the stalk, as well as the characteristic bulging appearance of the sheath that surrounds the emerging tassel. Most likely a seed was mixed in with your corn seed, probably stuck in the processing or packaging equipment and then later dislodged and ended up in your lot. Or it could have coincidentally been brought in by birds out of birdseed.
