Using Weed Block Material

I am pretty sure this has been discussed before, but I could not find info on it.

I'd like to put down weed block material over my entire garden and then cut areas out and plant into it. I also plan to put cardboard down, and add compost under it (worked into the soil and then mulch on top of the weed block material.

What comes to mind (from my vague recolletion) is that with our heat it might be an issue? but if mulched well and watered with drip emitters? will I be ok?

I'm planning to have tomatoes, peppers, okra, beans, melons, squash, eggplant, peanuts, strawberries, for summer and then I'll do fall leafy greens etc.

any thoughts? (weeds especially grass has been a nighmare for me in this gardenspot, something I battle every year). I just dont have the strength/stamina to weed it all the time any more, my back injury continues to limit my mobility.
