Toilet paper rolls versus peat pots for seed starting

gaetanol

I recently saw a post about using the center of a spent toilet paper roll (or paper towel roll) for starting plants from seed. The rolls reportedly can be transplanted directly, as the cardboard will break down.

Currently, I'm mostly using peat pots so I can transplant will less disturbance of the roots.

Anyone using the the center of the paper rolls? It seems to me that the cardboard roll might take longer to break down than a peat pot. But, if I'm worng about that, I'd be glad to save a few pennies and use the rolls instead.

Thanks,

Guy
