Corn is laying at an odd angle

This is the first time I have ever grown corn and I think I may have a problem.

I am currently growing Sun and Stars Supersweet corn. It is about 22" tall and looking good from what I can tell except that about 1/3 of them are leaning at about a 30 degree angle almost on their side.

They are protected from the wind so I don't believe that is the issue.

We had a couple days of rain which seemed to help some of them but not all of them.

If anybody has any ideas or suggestions on what to look for I would appreciate it.

They should straighten up on their own. You could do more harm than good trying to move them on your own.

I know you said it wasn't wind, but a couple years ago I had a wind storm literally flatten my corn that had been about 4 ft tall. It was hard to keep my DH from going out there and trying to straighten it, but within a few days the corn turned itself upright without any help.

The only other thing I can think of is sunlight. You say they are protected from wind...does that mean they are not getting direct sunlight. If they are strecthing toward the light that could be the cause of the slant, in that case they probably won't straighten up.

I actually used little bamboo stakes (with string) I bought pretty cheap to hold some of my windblown corn stalks up. Of course, I didn't know they would straighten themselves up...good to know!

I'd say that just about anything is possible, far fetched or not. Dave may be some jerk that was trying to take folks for a little ride (how many of you have taken you city cousins Snipe Hunting when they came to visit?) or someone that actually saw something that could endanger someone else because every time he tried to report it he got jeered. Guess we'll never know. I haven't seen Bigfoot or Elvis (since he died) but have seen panther, wolves, and bears where it was sworn that they couldn't be. North of where I live now is where a lot of the old Hansel and Grettal, Rip van Winkel, and witch stories originated. Walk through some of that area (even in daylight). Take Care, Dave

Wow. $160-170 for an actual house. In my area, that might get you the chicken coop. Moving on... If you mean that when you put your backside against the stove it's 20' to the outside LR wall, which you can't see from there, that does limit your layout possibilities. This may be a case where an open layout is the best choice. I've never seen a load bearing wall that is at that odd angle, so that is likely to be good news. Is the breakfast room actually large enough to be the dining room? Are there overhead cabs where the sink and DW are now? Since you probably have to keep the laundry where it is, maybe you can re-configure to make it into a small mud-room in the back hallway. You'll need to do some actual drawings (my DH says you clearly missed the architectural drawing class in HS! Yah, my HS didn't have that either.) and photos will help, but I think this is a very workable project. When you were looking at houses, did you see any in the neighborhood which had that odd wall? What did they do?

Two kids and life have gotten in the way of finishing. Quickly realized you can't stop tiling halfway thru - the morter/glue dries and now you have to scrape that away so the new section isn't higher. We are close, I think he can make perfect cuts to line up nicely to the doorway. However, he is a perfectionist and really is leaning to a doorway piece to cover (i'll fight it though). The other concern is the cuts are so close we can't get much grout in between wood piece. I think he's looking into grey kaulking to line the doorway to look like the grout ? (first mistake, the wonderboard under is too tall and we can't slide the tile under the hardwood door piece.) regarding the pics ** The tiles around the doorway are not in, just testing it all out. Where the tile isn't lining up well, those are not glued in, just laid there. Thanks for everyones continued interest!!!

could be rootworm damage or if you have had a wet spring roots may have stayed at top of ground if they havent had to go deep for moisture,or a combination of two should straighten up not a lot you can do
