Hello my long lost friends! I missed you! I apologize for not posting in forever. First, I traveled to PA for my niece's wedding, and stayed three weeks (too short) because I had not seen my family there-1 brother, 3 sisters, and their families-for 2 1/2 years. When I returned home, there was no progress to report. Then I had landscape issues crop up, and Houzz forbid me on their web site for a few weeks. Ugh!

Below you can now see that the kitchen has appliances, a faucet and cabinet hardware. My husband absolutely loves the ORB faucet! I am so glad you urged me to change finishes!

We are still working on a stain for the beams as the first batch was too dark and looked painted.

The concrete floor has not been sealed yet either. Some day we'll get there, but I am very happy with the way it's coming together. Thanks again for accompanying me on this journey. You have helped me immensely, and I am so grateful!

The casita bathroom still needs quite a few finishing touches, but you can see that the sink has an ORB faucet instead of my unfortunate choice of brushed stainless. Once again, I am so thankful for your guidance on this selection. In addition, the shower has been completed except for installing a longer shower head arm. The ORB finishes look great thanks to you! My husband is in love with them!

Nice balance.. how a dark faucet, etc. stands out and tile is dark and rich blue woo hoo. :)

Looking great! I am so glad you changed finish for faucets. Makes big positive difference. I am so happy you got some family time too. We all need this. Keep those photos coming. Might try semi-transparent stain for beams. That allows some grain to show through but still have body deeper look. It’s close now! Congratulations! I know how hard it has been in this environment. Good job.

Life is ok, Flo, and we have family who visit 3 separate parent groups. We get to see them around the 1st. I skim on houzz, and read that none escape some problem at some time or other... I wish you well in a somewhat new place. :)

Hi everdebz! I have not forgotten my loyal Houzzers! Our casita project is ongoing but is winding down, finally. The beams have just been completed after three different stain professionals and about 20 samples. It is lighter than our original plan only because we wanted the wood grain to show. See below. The floors will be sealed on Monday, Yay! Bathroom wall hardware will be installed next week. Then paint and kitchen cabinet touch ups will be completed, and the bathroom mirror will be hung. I still need to purchase towels, a mat and accessories for the bathroom. Thanks for thinking of me. I so much appreciate your help.

Ii is difficult to see, but the beams compliment the lighter color in the cabinets and also the floors.

Beams look fine. So glad you are near the finish line. As to bath mat just a soft beige. Please post more photos so we can share your joy! Well done!!

Hi to everdebz and Flo, my loyalists! Project update: The floors were sealed 2 weeks ago and they look very nice, although there are some blotchy spots, some lines and a crack, nothing that some furniture and a few rugs won't hide. The floors compliment the beams nicely and bring out some of the lighter tones in the cabinet wood. This past week, the bathroom mirror and wall hardware was installed. Everything looks great except wet towels could touch the toilet paper, and the holder may be a bit too far from the toilet bowl. Here are some photos and a few questions:

Should I hang a piece of art on the wall opposite the hand towels to balance the space?

Is this mat color and size ok? 31"L x 20"W. I really like it because it has a great texture and almost matches the grout color. I don't know what to do about a shower mat since the shower door cannot clear a mat.

Should I hang a shelf or a piece of art (although it would be too low) above the toilet? Notice how the towel bar end is directly above the holder.

Thank you so much for sticking with me during this journey! I absolutely could not have done it without you, and I certainly could not have stayed sane during this lengthy and sometimes stressful and frustrating process! You are the best!!

Looking great. In answer to your questions, I would like a wider rug at the sink. Toilet paper holder should be on other side of toilet. Then towel(s) will hang freely. A cute piece of art, would be nice over toilet tank. Another small piece on wall to right of sink would be cute. I have one in mind! Bbl

Wow! like the tile and the items put together... and imo you don't need a thing by the vanity. Possibly a square piece, of canvas, which wipes off easily, over toilet.... Widest is the top window, then wider for art, then not wide is the toilet ? :)

Yes you could put art on the right side of the vanity and over the toilet I would just hang a shade like a Roman shade and you could put art on that right wall beside the toilet

Thanks for your suggestions and ideas! I thought the mat was too narrow, and I never even considered a shade for the window, oops.

Concerning the toilet paper holder, the other wall is 34" long and there are 35 1/2" between the walls. Therefore, the far end of the holder spindle will be aligned with the front of the bowl which means the tissue will end up the beside the bowl so not sure about function. In my master bath the tissue roll starts at the front of the bowl and continues away from the bowl, which works fine, but this placement is the opposite. Here's how it would look:

Regarding the wall opposite the hand towel holder, I had considered a wall mounted makeup mirror. Any thoughts?

I prefer countertop mirror but all depends on how you see space being used. Since you don’t have vanity make up area, wall mount would work but then no art.

I also prefer stand alone toilet tissue dispensers.

Lots of good choices. Stronger colors work better with your tiling I think.

As to Spanish flavor/ influence, I feel a rugged quality in Van Gogh's art... the terra cotta roof / flowers was nice.

Near the blue tiles I can see art with soft blues, etc..

I guess I'm not much for the sunflowers, or the brights -- but hey do it with experimentation -- what about a Spanish artist?

I agree with you on the sunflowers and brights. If I hang art by the vanity, I want lighter hues to offset the saturated terracotta and navy colors. In addition, I want something simple and calming.

I hadn't thought about a Spanish artist-I'll have to look into that. Thanks for your thoughts and ideas.

If the wall behind the toilet matched the floor color it may integrate better…looks a little bland as is …

Fragrance by toilet can be nice, whether incense on a tray or dried lavender... open window a hair. On the toilet lid / or on a shelf or two: LED candles also.

Actually, little candles can add light, and that's function too. ;)
