Looking for: Shasta Daisy and Helenium

I am looking for Helenium (any variety) and Shasta Daisy. (my 2 biggest "wants" at the moment).

I am also searching for Lemon Mint "monarda citriodora"

Endive, Arugula, Peas and Zucchini. Plus ...I am still searching for any type of daylily besides "Stella D' Oro"

I have quite a few types of seeds to trade. I will swap 2 of mine for the wants listed above. ____________________________________________________

Becky is close to the house w/white foundation in a south bed that gets dappled shade part of the day. Even so, that and the other one (their first main year at least), got wilty in the hot afternoon sun, so I put in a soaker hose there which takes care of all those problems. I was watering that darn bed 3X a day on the hottest days, also amended the soil which helped. That one at Wayside sounds tempting, the longer they bloom the better because I love daisies, and they go so well with just about anything else or just by themselves. I've been toying with the idea of getting that early spring one, ox-eye I think, but can get troublesome as invasive as it is. It sure looks pretty with spring iris and other perennials that bloom at that time. Think I'll skip it for now, have enough problems as it is.

LOL... that is funny, funnthsun! What made me notice Banana Cream was my love for those little annual marguerite daisies which are pale yellow. I saw a picture of BC and thought it would be the answer. How disappointing that they're not all they're cracked up to be!! Wow I do like the look of Broadway Lights too. I've never seen those in the nurseries here in Ontario either. There's just something about daisies that makes one happy. Probably like a comfort food, for many of us, daisies were the first flowers we were made aware of, as children making daisy chains in the meadows. Fast forward to today where I see two ten-year olds in the park, talking to each other on their iPhones, lol. Oh man, I can't believe how long some of us have been here. 11 years for me! No wonder my husband thinks I'm having an affair with someone called Pete Moss or Veronica Speedwell...

* Silver Princes Shasta Daisy (I grew these plants from seed three years ago) * Crazy Daisy Shasta Daisy (NEW! Growing from seed this year. The flowers look like Marguerites! Very frilly.) * Gloriosa Daisy (growing them from seed) - Love these big Sunset yellow and orange flowers. Reminds of a desert sunset on the mesa. I have some Clara Curtis seeds I got in a trade. Never have tried to grow them yet. Guess I'll give them a try. Thanks for reminding me, Glenda! They sure are pretty. I have English Daisy seeds to sow in April. I direct seed them into the garden every year. So pretty. Not sure that you would call these daisies, but I bought a one little pot of Coreopsis verticillata 'Moonbeam' & one of Coreopsis hybrida 'Sweet Dreams' Coreopsis last year. I planted the Moonbeam in the potager. There a dozens of tiny seedlings coming up around where the mother plant was. They are growing to the front of a bed of Double Pink Knock Out Rose and Double Yellow Knock Out Roses. Moonbeam's soft, buttery yellow color will look pretty in with those roses. Self-seeded Chamomile is coming up and California poppies that I planted on the 15th are up. Tall Mauve Bread seed are everywhere in that area of the garden. I never know where they will move to each year. Pink & white Tasha Tudor HH's transplanted behind against the fence and Black and Blue Salvias I moved back there last fall. I transplanted a Don Juan (cl) rose back there to grow on the fence. Larkspurs and Heleniums are coming up on the other end and white Baby's Breath. Bright Periwinkles and white and purple Sweet Allysum will probably coming back from seeds, and who knows what else. I love bold splashes of color throughout my garden. I don't know if the Sweet Dreams reseeds or not since it is a hybrid, but the plant kicked it - darn it. Sweet Dreams Coreopsis is pink with purple to red centers. Very unusual colors for a Coreopsis. ~Annie

Help/hints for growing daisy type flowers

I tried for years to start painted daisy from seed with absolutely no luck. 4 years ago I gave up. Then the next spring the tiny babies I had planted and forgot about came up! Now I have them all over the garden! They get almost no sun and not much water either but they have bloomed ever since. This year I have double and the ones in the vegie garden are up and huge! I think I just planted them and forgot about them. Same with 4 varieties of shasta daisy. I haven't had much success with perennial carnations but I can sure grow dianthus Sweet William or pinks. The cheap little six packs from Can. Tire have been coming back for 3 years now. Bigger and bushier every year. Why not try Brown Eyed Susans? Agrola on 137 Ave. and 120 Streetish in Edmonton had them last year and they have good prices. Or try Greenland out on highway 16 East. They have a complete list on their website.
