How often do you fertilize?

I'm asking because I grew seedlings for a school garden as well as my own and the school garden is kicking my garden's butt!

It's quite sad.

I know part of it is because they have raised beds and are on a rooftop of cement, so it is much hotter.

But it made me wonder if maybe I wasn't giving my plants enough fertilizer?

I have beds and containers, with potting mix in the containers. We compost and I add the compost to my beds any time I can, during breaks between plantings....and with extra going in during the winter season.

It's the start of our summer veggie season with transplants just going in and nothing flowering yet.

I think I probably average every two-four weeks with a liquid based fert (something like 12-15-12). Citrus gets a handful of citrus fert every month. In between they get some fish emulsion or seaweed, light feedings....

I've also noticed that the first "turn" of veggies in new planting mix does great, but not the second.

For example, I had a pot with new mix that made great radishes, but subsequent plantings have produced less.
