Im hoping your plants grow in to fill their holes! If they dont, wht about buying some starter plants and sticking them in? Hows your soil that you are planting these plants in? -cass

I have plenty of assorted seeds to fill in as needed. :-)

My soil could be a lot better. Its pure sand. Some of it has a year of working with some (but not enough), compost worked in. Some is first year off grass.

The ag agent said to expect to need a LOT of lime and to be deficient in potassium. I'm added some lime and wood ashes while waiting for the soil test.

Once in the 20 years I've been married I lived somewhere long enough to get the soil to a condition I felt happy about.

scarlet runners, they say you can't transplant! my backside! try planting them in bio-degradable pot, then you will get to see the germination, then plant (I used newspaper pots), when I tranplanted them, I then direct sowed the rest of the row!! only 3 have come up and like my peas, which I started in newspaper pot as well, and my direct planteds... better result from the transplants, in fact I thought twice I had forgotten to plant my peas and beans!, as after 4 weeks nothing! dug up the plot not a seed in site! I think the critters had them!!!

I planted some pole beans in a new raised bed this season. The soil came from Home Depot in those plastic bags so you know it was lousy soil before I added some ammendments to it. Right out of the bag, the soil looked more like construction debris than soil. After about a month of waiting, not a single bean had stuck it's little green head up. I added a little more ammendment to the soil and replanted the bed. About a week later, when the moon was in the right phase or something; they all came up, including the original planting and the second planting. Guess I will have a lot of beans this year.
