Question about organic control of corn earworm

Hi,

I've read a few places online that suggest to use a few drops of mineral oil on the corn silks AFTER polination. Does this really work? Am I to understand that the worms wont try to enter the husk until AFTER polination?

And just to clarify, how do I know polination has taken place? Is it when the silks turn brown or earlier?

Are there any other effective organic controls of corn earworm? My corn is about to tassle. Last time I grew corn I had atleast one worm in almost every ear of corn near the tip.

Thanks,

Nick
