Need bathroom privacy - pic
Comments (7)I'm assuming you will be keeping those beautiful drapery panels? They help a great deal with that side-gap you sometimes get with blinds, pleated or wooden. We've got 2" wood blinds and get complete privacy at night...because our house sits way up high and there are no neighbors who can see "down" at our windows. If your neighbors don't have any windows above yours and you have your blinds angled "up" at night, you'll be fine. I've got those blind over my garden tub window(looks just like your setup) and I can clearly see the sun/moon while enjoying a bath with the blinds "closed" in the up position. So, if I can see out... Like Pal said, be careful! We used top-down/bottom-up pleated shades in the FR of our old house because the windows went all the way to the floor and the entire room could be seen clearly from the street at night. They are great. I'd seriously consider them in your window for a number of reasons. First, they are more energy efficient and on cold days can be left closed all the way if you choose. Second, they can be adjusted to whatever height and left alone (cafe height). Lastly, I don't think that water droplets will do as much damage to them. My wood blinds are starting to show some spots where the water has splashed them and they are peeling/looking a bit ratty. I'm thinking that plantation shutters would look nice too, but may obscure too much of the view for your liking....See MorePrivacy glass on a bathroom door
Comments (8)Thanks everyone for your input. I like that chart from the Simpsons door website. We would want one of a privacy rating of 10 or 9. The acid etched ones are worth checking out. Dennis, this door would lead to a bathroom. The toilet is a few feet from the door, so yes we need privacy LOL. Carol...See MoreWhat Size Window for this Bathroom? Privacy Glass or Clear?
Comments (14)Windowswashington: Thank you for your reply. I didn't see it before I posted mine. Are you suggesting that we make the window smaller than it is now to avoid additional framing work? Will it be almost as much work to keep the window the same size as to make it a bit taller? Since you're the second person who has mentioned how much work is involved in reframing, I'm thinking that this must be a really big deal. The person who is going to do the work didn't seem bothered by it. He has built homes for a living so I hope he knows what he's talking about and this doesn't involve tearing half the wall apart. If we keep the window the same size, would the wall still have to be cut on the interior at the lower portion of the window frame? Millworkman: Can you tell me how many inches of damage to the stucco would be involved in replacing the header and approximately how many hours of work? The person doing the job knows how to re-texture the stucco. We do plan to paint the stucco on the entire house soon but I don't want to put our friend through hell to gain a few inches of glass. He's also offered to remove the drop ceiling in our kitchen, a project that my husband was horrified to take on when I suggested it....See MoreCreating bathroom window privacy?
Comments (11)It's a small HOA and there are no identical houses, so lots of flexibility. The reason they didn't like the wall idea is that they don't want to hide the houses behind solid structures -- they did suggest a green wall, however. So it feels like there are different options here, I've been looking for example projects of folks with the same challenge. I like the idea of having more light come in and making the bathroom feel "open", but not at the expense of privacy given it's facing a street....See Moredeviant-deziner
