kumquat: what soil should i use?

Hi everyone,

I am a newbie that just purchased a 3-year old Fukushu kumquat from Four Winds. I did a LOT of research on Gardenweb before purchasing, and it seems like EVERYONE recommended Four Winds! I am a poor college student so I really really don't want this kumquat to fail (so expensive!!!).

All of my other plants are in the Gritty Mix. However, for citrus, I have heard good and bad about the gritty mix, so I am really scared to bareroot such a big/mature kumquat into the gritty mix (especially since I don't have much experience with citrus AT ALL).

So: what types of soil should I put my kumquat in (that is not here yet)?

Can I just buy the Miracle Grow CACTUS/CITRUS mix and add a lot of pine bark, perlite/granite grit in it? (I don't have lime).

Should I use Gritty Mix anyway?

What are some tips as to transplant (keep in shade for 2 weeks, no fertilizer yet)?

ANY SUGGESTION/TIP WILL BE GREATLY GREATLY GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Thank you so much!

Ruby
