I recall hearing Clint Eastwood say that in one of his movies. After 12 hours of yardwork yesterday my body is telling me this morning that I don't know my limitations.

I'm on my 3rd cup of coffee this morning, on the internet, and I need to be outside but I can barely move.

Morning Jim,

I feel your pain!

I was outside yesterday just picking up sticks and doing some light raking and my back and neck are screaming "go lay down". I would if... I didn't have two 8 week old lab puppies to chase around today.

I suppose it's best to just push through it and stretch out the muscles, so off I go.

You would only need to change the hardness setting. At 30 gpg with 3 people in your home, assuming 60 gallons/person/day, you will have 5400 grains per day. The sweet spot between water efficiency and salt efficiency happens at 6 lb salt/cuft resin, regenerating about every 7 days. At that salt dosage, a 2 cuft softener has a capacity of 42,000. Now we take off 15% for a safety factor. We do this because we set up the softener to regen at a convenient time in the middle of the night and you want soft water right up until regen time. This places your regen every 6 - 8 days. At 12 gpg that same 2 cuft softener would regen every 16 days. Now, if you go with a 1.5 cuft softener, 12 gpg regens every 12 and 30 gpg regens every 5. While it is technically possible to size the softener smaller, you have a fairly large house with many bathrooms. When we try to choose the most appropriate softener size, we want to ensure that the softener is large enough to accommodate the use of several fixtures at once without negative impact on flow and without causing slugs of hard water during high-water-use times. For example: You don't want your shower to turn into a trickle if a toilet gets flushed in another bathroom. At the same time, we don't want to size the softener too large or you run the risk of channeling (where water runs through only a small portion of the softener rather than distributed across the resin bed). If it were my home, I would go with the 1.5 cuft softener if I only had to change the settings twice per year. If, however, hardness changes frequently and without notice, I would go with a 2.0 cuft softener and leave it set for 30 gpg.

Yo, Silvia, not to back off of my opinion that this is a nonsense post, but...... Except for the OP's using of the word "pursued" one time, I think the whole thing is pretty unclear. She even said he was up-front with her about ALL of this self-serving stupidness and SHE decided to stick around. No deception was mentioned. Now she's whining about it and feels so bad and wants a fan-club to help her feel justified, apparently....although I really have no idea what she wants. She volunteered to be crapped on and afterward she's discovered she doesn't like crap. I'm having a little trouble with my own sympathy-generator. I know you've got axes to grind from previous experience (don't we all?) but this is a bit beyond, even for you, IMHO.

AnneCecilia, so sorry to hear of your loss, as well. I'm glad your were at least able to move some of your original roses to have that physical reminder. I'm really interested in your knee replacement, but don't want to hijack this thread. I have a friend that REALLY "kneeds" that, but is afraid he won't have range of motion and will be in worse shape, although he's bone-on-bone at the moment. He's barely able to walk and looks at a jaunt to the garage or up stairs as a journey. I only have about 20, many new this year and in pots still. 5 New Dawn, 2 Munstead Wood, 2 Viking Queen, 2 Summer Romance, 1 Tooth Fairy, three old polys, 2 Cecile Brunners and 2 Fire Opal and 1 Dr Huey. I need more to fill out my beds, although the polys are for two small beds. I'm still in the expansion phase, but am such a researcher, it takes me forever to decide. I envy those who just see a flower and buy it!

Reminds me of when we cleared out my mother in law’s house after she passed away. She was a lover of a popular liquid fabric softener and used it liberally. I took home her fluffy bath towels and quickly discovered they wouldn’t absorb even a teaspoon of water! It took me 12 months to get all that softener gunk out of them before they were useable. I used white vinegar, over and over and over.

Yesterday,I started at daybreak. I cleaned flowerbeds,tossing the pintestraw mulch onto the lawn,cut the bed edges,planted a brazillon perennials(one tree peony I grew from seed 5 yrs ago ,6-8 foxgloves,6-8 clumps of tall garden phlox,3-4 red campions,1 bugbane and some others I can't remember),mowed over the pinestraw then put it BACK on the bed then mowed two sections of the lawn last but not least...pruned some of the hydrangeas.That's only the beginning and only the west side lawn. I have 1 &1/2 of yard /35 HUGE flowerbeds at last count but I have deleted a couple and joined some others so count is probably wrong now.

This year I started at the back corner of my yard..because the back almost always gets taken care of last and it looked like h-e-double hocky sticks after 3 years of neglect.

Luckily,we had a ladies exercise group going during the winter but still,at the end of the day,I felt like I'd been run over by a herd of stampeding buffalo.

Soak in the tub for a bit and relax those weary bones and muscles. Throw some epsom salt in there.

I know what you mean. We recently had a 73 degree day, (we'd been having days mostly in the 30s and 40s) and I went crazy getting all kinds of stuff done in the yard. But I knew I wasn't in shape for that many hours of yardwork, so right after dinner I took a long hot bath, and took advil before bed. I should have put some advil on the bedside tale, too!

Mid Feb this year we had the spring thaw and the Star of Beth bulbs had started to emerge. The first day I went out and spent 4 hours on my hands and knees digging them out. My lower half was sore for a week. Luckily it turned off cold again right away, so I did not feel bad having to stay in and recuperate from the digging. The next time I dug, I limited the time to just 2 hours. Now those muscles have toughened up so I could likely dig all day without getting sore.

Did alot of weeding about a week ago for only about 2 hours, couldn't believe how sore my muscles were. Our temps are staying between the high 50's and mid 60's every day here, sometimes even up to 70 so lots of weeds taking off. I weeded about 4 hours today and am tired but not half as sore as I was a week ago! Muscles are stretching out, feels good.
Winter sown babies are really popping up, can't wait to plant them. : )
