Okay, there are two types of bloomers in the Calla famiy. The aethiopicas (usually white and green blooms) grow their foliage throughout the winter and bloom in the spring. The speckled leaved and colored bloomed ones (in general) go dormant in the winter, come up in the spring, and bloom in early summer. They all like very moist, even boggy soil. My experience with them is it can take several years in the ground for them to settle in and put on enough growth to bloom. Most of the aethiopicas like shade to partial shade, at least as far south as I am. The others like more sun, though I have them in partial shade too. As far as the need to divide them, I really don't know, except that I have an elderly friend who grows the most beautiful aethiopicas you ever saw in a patch that she says has been there more than fifty years without ever having been divided. That makes it sound to me that they don't NEED to be divided, though they obviously can be, in order to increase plantings. You don't say what kind you have, where they are planted, or how long you've had them. All of these things are major factors.

Don´t know why those Black Forest multiply so easily, they sprout everywhere, every time I add soil amendments and dig up the flowerbeds they appear in places I´m positive I didn´t plant them, from all the varieties I own they the hardiest with exception of those perennial callas very common in Mexico ( which I don´t have ), they come up every year without exception. Callas are one of the very few bulbs I lift after they are done ( need that space for pansies ) the rest of the bulbs are kept in the ground year round unless I need to divide them........one of the good things about living in a hot climate, you don´t have to worry about overwintering tender bulbs.

Am starting to bring things in for winter. Interested in bulbs or tubers not rooted perennials. Have for trade: 50+ small ornithogalum saudersaie bulbs. (South African) My favorite plant! Probably need another year before they bloom. 50+ baby yellow calla lily bulbs. These are the ones with the large yellow flowers and the spotted leaves. Will need a few years to bloom. 22 assort size aztec lily, sprekelia, bulbs. Some mature and their offsets. I love the sparkles in the blooms- maybe this one's my favorite! 4 rain lily and their smaller offsets. Amorphophallus konjac. Various sizes. grape size, fist size and on up. Canna: 'phaison',' pretoria', and 'louis cottin' and no name ones with salmon blooms, and orange blooms. No sase requests please. And you send first.
