are you talking about Ya Li (sp?). it's light yellow/tan and pear shaped, very juicy! i actually found seeds that have already begun to sprout while still inside the fruit. i potted them and three years later I have two 12 ft trees. One of them leafs out faster than the other every year, so chilling requirements are different even though they came from the same fruit. they look like they will flower any time now. I have several neighbors in houston that have planted asian pears from seeds, and they are fairly quick to bear fruit (4 years maybe?). probably not exactly the same s the parent, but fairly close.

i'm not aware that mexican tarragon sets seeds... it might be sterile. i have several very large bushes--tons of beautiful flowers (it's a tagetes), but never once have i seen a seed. 'they say' that mexican tarragon is inferior to french in flavor, but i don't find it so. my all-time favorite salad is fresh, slightly-green tomatoes with some olive oil and tarragon sprinkled on top. it's really the only way i eat tomatoes... i spilled a package of parsley in my garden in the fall (butterfingers) and not i have parsley EVERYWHERE. i have no idea how the seeds got as widely distributed as they did. i grow tons of herbs from seed. the easiest are, i think, parsley (SLOW to germinate) and basil.

OP, you are in zone 8 and I am in 9, however, I had the same problem (which turned out to be a non-issue!) Not only did mine seem to be "stunted" as you said, but my seedlings also essentially "died" and grew back. The "germ leaves" (forgive my current lack of proper terminology) turned yellow and died, and I thought all was lost, but then about a week later, not only did they start growing back, but they grew back with vigor. Now they have 3 sets of leaves each, and are moving along very nicely. So my advice is to just wait it out and see what happens. Start a few more "replacements" perhaps, just in case, but as long as you keep your current ones from freezing weather, they will turn out fine (: Honestly though, I would get them out of that nasty miracle grow ASAP, regardless of what happens. That will not help them at all, trust me. Get them in some nice "clean" (organic) soil, and begin feeding them NATURAL fertilizer when the weather begins to warm up a bit more.

The ones in the house, I guess they just "fail to thrive". They seem to struggle along, don't grow and eventually die off. No yellowing. I think the last two were root rotted before I got them. The ones I've tried in the ground, I think I've tried to plant too late in the heat and they've literally burned up. I've just tried three more sweet basil. I got one from Home Depot, two from Sprouts. The two from Sprouts (a grocery) are sorry looking creatures, made for "living food" which I guess you're supposed to harvest when you get home but I decided to plant instead. They were so rootbound it was amazing they were still alive (but barely). I took out about 10 of 15 little plants from a tiny container out of each, loosened up the incredible root balls and stuck them in a window type container but put them outside with a pretty little globe basil from Home Depot. The one from Home Depot looks quite healthy, I put that one right in the garden on the east side of the house (figured if it survives the winter it will have some shade in the heat of summer) In the past I haven't really added fertizer. This time when I planted I put a handful of bloodmeal and bonemeal in a mixture of good potting soil in the pots. The one in the ground has good garden soil, vermiculite and I also gave it a little bonemeal/bloodmeal. It seems like all the plants have perked up and darkened in the past two or three days, a good sign. I gave some the sweet basil each a haircut, especially the one's from Sprouts which had huge leaves on long skinny stems that were weighing them down so that they couldn't stand up. That seemed to perk them up quite a bit. I'm open to all suggestions about what to do next. I stuck the window container out in the yard in full sun. Also planted a few cilantro seeds on one side of it, hope that's ok with basil.
