WANTED: Garlic Bulbs for Fall Planting

I would like to trade for garlic bulbs for planting within 2 weeks. I have potted goji seedlings and paw paw seedlings that I can trade.

Tony - I am interested in true garlic. I don't know anything about elephant garlic. How is it used?

Fall planted garlic already sprouted

I've been planting garlic for the last month, and none of it has sprouted. Should I be worried? Also, by the time I got some of the cloves into the ground, they'd shriveled somewhat and didn't look as firm and juicy. Will they still grow all right? I rather overbought on garlic this year, and I'm trying to get it all in the ground ASAP. Looks like most of my beds will be dedicated to garlic. I may have to forego trying to grow zucchini and melons next year. I just won't have the room.

The answer may be in certain bulbils. Some varieties have large bulbils which will produce a divided bulb even when planted in the spring. Those with smaller bulbils may make only a round despite fall planting. Smallest of all that I've seen, Music, may be the one to experiment with. If they can be tricked into growing shortly after the parent plant is mature, they'd give you a perfect garlic scallion by October. I got almost no growth from them when planted last fall. Suddenly that area is almost solid green spears just over an inch long. However, some were also spilled into the cold frame last fall. In zone eight we always plant garlic in the fall but I'm not sure about your zone. I usually harvest garlic mid summer when all but about seven of the leaves have turned brown. Pull them up and let them dry out in a shady spot for a week or so until all of the leaves dry. At that point you can use it or store it for the winter. It will last from four to ten months or so depending on variety. Onions from sets usually do better as green onions rather than bulb onions. The green onions can be harvested all winter if the ground isnt frozen. If the onions don't go to seed in the summer they will start to grow large bulbs and when the tops start to die down they are ready to pull. Good luck. Theresa.

Katts - I have two seedlings, but they are both the same variety (I don't know the variety) and you will need two different varieties for pollination. Send me an email.

I have some garlic bulbs not from the store. My aunt grew em for years. saw you had some hardy kiwi in another post. was wondering if you had any of the anna kiwi cuttings or rooted

Sahmjay - I have anna hardy kiwis but have not been successful in rooting them. About the best I can promise is to provide cuttings and let you try to root them.
