Divide 5 Francee Hosta or include companions?

I have a fairly mature river birch that I have five Francee hosta surrounding, each several feet away from the trunk, and probably 3-4 feet from one another. This area is a circle defined by large light-colored river rocks, though more will be added later to make it a more defined border. This is only their second year in the ground, and they are just little 'pencil tips' poking out of the ground.

My question - There is a large amount of space both between and behind each hosta. Right now would be the best time for me to divide them and use the divisions to fill in the gaps. Should I do this, wait to see how they fill in on their own, or should I try and plant companions between them? If so, what do you recommend for Francee? Pics available if you want them!
