Hi,

It's getting to be that time of year again and I have too many things that won't survive our winter. I am out of room in the house and greenhouse so these things will either be traded or frozen. I thought perhapse someone that lives further south could use some of them.

I am interested in trading for z4 hardy perenials. Depending on what you are offering I would trade more than one of these plants for a nice perenial plant. Just like most other folks around here I am especially interested in named hosta and DL, but will consider just about anything. Please don't be offended if I have to refuse your offer for one of the 3 following reasons; I already have it, it's not z4 hardy or its really invasive.

I can send you a photo of the actual plant that you will get.

Okay here's the list.

-Green elephant ears - really large ones and smaller ones

-Tradescantia fluminensis - wandering Jew (green small leaf, green with white stripe large leaf or purple striped large leaf)(rooted or cuttings)

-Tradescantia pallida (purple)(rooted or cuttings)

-Coleus - green purple and fusha (large rooted or cuttings)

-Bacopa

-sushni

-ornemental peppers - purple leaf purple fruit, marbles, trifetti, fish, little elf (3 year old plant)

-bloody dock

-cannas - Montana, green with maroon varigation, green with yellow varigation, dark maroon leaves with red flowers very tall

-Dahlia - Ann Nancy, Poppers (one of each of these), very tall deep red (this one I'll have to dig up and see how many tubers there are as I want to save few, it's usually very prolific)

-fiber optic grass

- amaryllis - picotee or red with a white star (2 ofset bulbs of each, will trade the large bulb of the red and white one)

- Hoya - Krimson Queen (2 rooted plants), publex (? spelling - green leaves with white spots, cream colored flowers long vines - large cuttings of this one)

- Patchouli - this one is a full sized plant. It's not doing that well as it lost most of it's leaves in a cold spell, but I brought it in and I see it has new growth now.

- Plectranthus - mona lavendar, Plectranthus argentatus (silver shield), Plectranthus coleoides variegatus (sweedish Ivy), Zulu wonder (purple), cuban oregano and a green and gold verigated one. Large rooted plants or cuttings.

-Brugmansias - tripple purple and white, or tripple cream (whole plant) purple is 2 ft cream is 1.5 feet)

- Geraniums - lime green, lime green and yellow verigated

- lemon grass

- pineapple sage - large plant

- lemon verbena - whole plant

- Lavendula multifida - spanish eyes (have quite a few of these)

- Lavendula agustifolia - silver edge (this one is a little special)

- Mandevilla - alice du pont - whole plant (this one is a little special)

- purple sweet potato vine

- scented geranium - apple (full sized plant)

- night blooming cerus - large cuttings

- spider plants - green (babies and full sized plants), green and yellow verigated (2 babies)

- purple african violets

- duranta Golden Eagle (special trade - I'll have to check on this one I'm listing it for a friend, this is a 1.5 x 2 foot small shrub)

Mulchmama, I'm pretty much on the border of NY and PA; Western, NY. Well, we forgot to protect our little tree. We were too busy putting up drywall tonight, and completely forgot about it, til I remembered it just now. I'm almost tempted to wake up dh. lol But I won't, and I'm not going out there in the dark, there's too many bats, and if a vole ran under my foot while I was out there in the dark my scream would effortlessly wake the neighbor's, so what's done is done.

suzannesl - I saw that picture on the website too and that was part of the reason I was worried about it being dark. I guess since I have them IRL, I should stop worrying about that. I have noticed that there are some little bubbles in the 'frosting' of the glass and that does cause me some concern. My contractor did ask me to decide what I wanted to do, but I'm thinking that he just wanted to know that now to take into account how much labor to charge for the estimate. I was planning to tile behind the hood, so I am guessing that I'll need to know sooner rather than later so that they can get it put up back there. As far as the floors go - I've already had two plumbing issues that didn't cause problems for my tile floors, but did cause the basement ceiling to be replaced. It was damaged several months later and will be replaced again with the reno when they run the gas lines anyway. Pricey problems and I worry about it. My contractor told me that he has constant insurance claims after power outages for people that don't think to empty the ice tray or silly things like that. Sounds like me... But they are so beautiful. remodelfla - do you know if those tiles are from Shaw? Because they have a clear version of the tile and it looks completely identical to what you have! Funny! Thanks for the tile source! I'm going to order several samples from there. Can't hurt! :)

I stand by my earlier complaint while also acknowledging what sleeperblues said. It is indeed a sad fact that for many people, when money gets tight, medical bills get pushed to the back of the line and frequently don't get paid at all. Unfortunately, those doctors still have a practice to run and employees they must pay, regardless of whether someone has paid their bill or not. I suppose I pine for "the old days" myself. For the majority of my adult life, we lived paycheck to paycheck. We could budget to pay you in installments but we just didn't have a lump sum to give you upfront to pay in advance. Hubby and I have managed, over the past 10 years, to work our way out of that lower class (paycheck to paycheck) predicament into a solidly middle class status. Before that, it was (largely) an honor system. We promised we would pay what we could, when we could, until the balance was paid; the doctors took us at our word AND we fulfilled our obligation. Unfortunately, too many have gamed the system for too long and now, an increasing number of doctors and facilities require full upfront payment. Luckily for me, I've established a rapport with my regular physicians and dentists and they KNOW I'm "good for it" and they allow me to get needed services and pay out over time if I need to. I worry for my children though. It has taken years of seeing the same practitioners before we reached a comfortable spot that I could get what I need and they know I won't shaft them. What will my kids do in 15 years if they are just starting out and can't afford 1000 upfront for, say a root canal and crown?

Squash plants look frost damaged, but we have not had a frost!!

Ok now I'm really getting confused. There are no indications of frost damage whatsoever in the photos. The plants are clearly anemic. But given the mixed info given there is no sure way to tell why. First, why in zone 5 are these tiny young plants already buried in deep mulch. Far too early as the ground hasn't sufficiently warmed up yet, especially for squash, and cool soil temps can cause nutrient uptake problems. Plus you need to pull the mulch back to a 4-6" circle around the plants until they are well established. All that high carbon mulch is further leaching nitrogen from the plants not to mention encouraging pests. Second, "garden soil enriched with well rotted compost, pure alfalfa pellets, dried chicken feathers and a little lime to counteract our alkaline soil" could easily be NOT "rich" soil since there are minimal if any nutrients in it for the plants. Decomposition takes time - lots of time - and is wholly dependent on soil bacteria activity and soil temps. Third, one should never play around with either lime or sulfa (BIG difference between the two) without absolute knowledge of their soil pH. Doing so only creates further nutrient problems. Fourth, define "well-watered" please. Unfortunately to many new gardeners that often means daily. Which is usually drowning them. IMO your plants need to be UN-mulched for a couple of weeks and fed some form of readily available nutrients and your soil needs to be professionally tested so you know what you are actually working with. Interested in Bean - Dragon Tongue...have Brazilian Starfish pepper seeds to offer.

Could not find a photo of Duranta Golden Eagle but have to offer a Mock Orange plant about 2 feet tall.

Just so you know---what you have aren't brugmansias, they're daturas. How do I know? Because brugs don't come in purple. (*grin*) Save yourself some seeds from these, as they've very easily grown as an annual, even though they're actually a tender perennial.

Well the hard frost is here! If not tonight it will be tomorrow for sure. I'm listing the things here that I still have left. If I put a * by it I won't be bringing it in and it will be frozen on Sat AM. Those that don't have a * will still be available after Sat.
